I had St. Dominic's in my hand yesterday, gonna go back and get it ! Missing it for years, on vinyl. Mr. Tambourine Man is my favorite Byrds LP.. And yes, too bad Gene didn't stick around a while longer. Meddlle and Wish You Were Here, are my go to Floyd. Saw Bowie Nov. 1973 Celebrity Theatre Phoenix, Az on the Ziggy Tour... my best show ever ! Love love Hendrix, and Cry Of Love is in a 3 way tie for my go to LP's. In The Purple Valley is my fav, and most played.. finally picked up a minty Boomers Story.. I'm not familiar with the Grateful Dead.. Hehe.. will enjoy the rest of your video.. Thanks !
Glad to see the love for “Station to Station” like I do! For me, this is my favourite “Berlin period” album even if it’s not (if you know what I mean!). It even makes my top 5 Bowie albums.
I think that second in my LP quantity count after The Beatles is XTC. I was picking up every XTC record that I could find in the 80's. My CD version of this would have The Kinks, The Beatles, XTC, Richard Thompson and Robyn Hitchcock (Including The Egyptians) as the top five.
Great idea for a video. I really enjoyed this and the fact that Ry Cooder is in your top 10 makes me want to delve into his music. I hate to admit it, but I have nothing by him at the moment.
Of course at age 72 I can relate to all of this. I love Jimi and Stones and Kinks. But Bob is my number one guy, always was, since 64. I could talk about the misses but that is all irrelevant.. Great collection you have. Now I have to subscribe. Because now I know I can relate to your love.
Dylan is the biggest artist collection i have. 123 albums (not including 45's, tapes, and CDs). I count the Bootleg Series boxes as one but the mono box is 8 since they're full albums. Great video, Mazzy! Now I want to go count my artist collections to see who my top 10 are.
Great recap of “best live albums”! I fully agree with you that Little Feat “Waiting For Columbus” is right up there with the best live albums of all time, no doubt about it. Your list is all fantastic live albums, and I would not argue against any of them. They all deserve to be on this list.
One that I would add to the list, is Humble Pie “Performance, Rockin’ The Fillmore”, which is an outstanding live album, and one of my favorites. Also an honorable mention (because it doesn’t belong in this grouping, as it came out years after the fact and not at the time), would be The Move “Live At The Fillmore 1969”. It’s obvious they came here to conquer, and from the energy that you can feel listening to that record, it’s a shame they never really made it state side.
Most of your list I’m very familiar with and have in my own collection. There’s a couple I don’t have that I need to revisit, like that Dylan album “Hard Rain”. I don’t think I’ve heard that since it came out.
Thanks again Norman, for sharing your insights. Always a fun ride to watch these videos! And the Fleetwood Mac / Peter Green live album? Oh man, I NEED that one! Ouch though, it’s expensive and out of print. That would be a great reissue for RSD!
I'm 65 and love all these bands, but also listen to a lot of modern jazz and alt-rock bands, and my favorite is Guided By Voices, who I've been listening to since 1994. The main writer/singer is Robert Pollard, and including his many solo and side projects, has at least 200 records out. I collect everything he puts on on CD. He says his influences are "the 4 P's" : pop, punk, psych, prog. I think he may be the most prolific song writer in history.
Great collection but also a huge tip of the hat to The Beatles for their prolific short time together and their management for marketing the hell out of a large body of work, but let's face it, a relatively short career. Yet they still manage to crank out that many different versions, collections, editions, bootlegs and branch out into all fields of marketing to perpetuate their product and get as much money from their fans as possible.
And despite being driven by greed from their fans, they have also managed to reciprocate wealth BACK to dedicated collectors such as yourself by having all of their wonderful merchandise continue to skyrocket 50 to 60 years later!
I still haven't played my Psychedelic Pill yet, some 10 years after preordering it so many years ago. I'm not sure what I'm waiting for as they came packaged very much unsealed so it would be virtually impossible for me to prove its never been played. Oh well. Perhaps I'll spin it before I die. Perhaps I will leave that honor to someone else that may not even know it. Maybe I'm 3 beers away from playing it tonight. Ha!
As always, it was fun joining you on this little journey. I wouldn't have pegged you as that strong of a Neil Young fan.
Fantastic Mazzy! You almost looked embarrassed and started to justify why you have so many Beatles albums...I have my very first album gifted by my parents - Beatles -Hard Day's Night to this day. One of the greatest benefits of getting old is that we have had time to collect and now, ENJOY!! Thanks for sharing, you are an inspiration (and justification why I collect so many versions of one artist) 'OnYa
