Nevermind Alley Cats, where have you been for three days?

Alley Cats is the kind of thing BBC Three would’ve put on in 2007 in a time slot so late the only people who would’ve watched it would’ve been people who woke up after falling asleep during a Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps marathon

"I've sort of fused XFM with Brickleberry shit" - Gervais to the Netflix executives

The part where Ricky Gervais cat says "cunt" is so fresh and original.......

Ricky is still fighting the 2016 culture war and nobody went to his mansion and told him it's over.

Albino watching that

As someone on twitter said, his modern work is just him playing himself getting all of his views across and all the other characters are there to tell him how brilliant and misunderstood he is

Stephen Merchant made a series called 'Hello Ladies', and another more recent one called 'The Outlaws'. He also wrote and directed a film called 'Fighting with my Family', so he has done some decent solo stuff to be fair

Gervais got a lot of kudos for The Office and Extras for the pathos of the main characters, and the tragic nature of the lead. Brent wants to be liked so much he stops himself being likeable, Millman wants to be a writer and actor with things to say but is hugely conscious he's selling out for fame. I think Gervais sort of got the credit for those things - those qualities got transposed to him somehow, as a kind of self-aware, reflective, insightful figure in comedy, and that really boosted him into the big leagues. However I think it's pretty apparent that Merchant was the person who was bringing that energy into the partnership; as soon as they stopped collaborating you got Brent without the goodness, Millman without the shame. And those things aren't funny, and they aren't interesting.

When Steve Merchant made Hello Ladies and Gervais made Derek around the same time, I knew Merchant was the brains of that writing duo.

“What’s wrong; too offensive for ya? It’s a cartoon about cats! Why are you getting offended?”

The modern Gervais enjoyer!

It's not necessarily that people think Merchant is more talented than Gervais - it's more that he doesn't seem to get nearly as much recognition for his contribution to The Office and Extras.

The XFM podcasts are proof Merchant was the brains.

He pieced together the conversations and made witty comments while Gervais was acting like a bully and a big kid.

You know, I like Limmy the atheist, and I like Ricky Gervais the atheist. But which is better? There's only one way to find out... !

3.45 for five hamburgers, that's good value.

Watching XFM back is funny in the sense, Ricky isn't as knowledgable as he makes out to be he just has a baseline knowledge of a lot of subjects which is more than Karl but a lot of the time he is wrong when going into depth

They've turned the Office fans against ussss

It’s another (terrible) vanity project from Gervais where apparently, using the word ‘cunt’ a thousand times is the peak of comedy.

is there a cat in it who is an atheist and debunks the other cats’ stupid superstitious beliefs?

Stephen Merchant brought a maturity and structure to the story telling, which made their shows together feel genuine and funny
Stephen wrote The Outlaws - that's a great show.

Merchants best solo work is his sitcom “hello ladies”. I’d say it sits below Extras. You could defo tell it was written by the same person who wrote extras. But if anyone told me that the same writer it the office wrote any of Ricky’s work, I wouldn’t believe them.
