Amazing, thanks for the update. I wish my dad was still alive to have seen this - he was a driver on the K&ESR for 30 years and never thought it would happen!
KESR August 26 updateOur Chairman Derrick chats with Mike from the Rother Valley Railway about the progress of the Robertsbridge
The K&ESR LOVE LOUIS SHIRLEY
The donors have indeed been very generous, but I can think of few more worthy ways of spending money in view of the pleasure it will give to passengers of the new railway in the future! Some people tend to underplay the importance of heritage railways, but the K&ESR is a large tourist attraction, injecting an estimated £5 million into the Kent economy each year.
Great video, so much information here. We'll done to all those involved in this project - I look forward to using the line especially as the pub crawl element has now been highlighted!
Similar to the message above, I wish my Dad were here to see this too. He was a signalman in retirement at Witt Road and travelled the whole length of the line in both directions in 1954.
I'm not a train person, but can only be a good thing getting these railways are getting rebuilt, whether heritage or network rail (cowley branch and the east-west railway comes to mind). Following now to keep up to date with this little railway.
Having a connection to the national network is absolutely fudamental to any successful heritage line. Look how the Bluebell has flourished after the commection to East rinstead. Severn Valley, North Norfolk, Welsh Highland, etc etc.
Well done, you've overcome the sceptics and naysayers, I look forward to riding it in the future, good to see Mike Hart looking well, I met him years ago.
I dream that one day the other missing link to the K&ESR will be restored and connected to the Tonbridge-Ashford line at Headcorn Station - There are probably a lot of reasons that will never happen but I never thought they would make it to Robertsbridge! (I also never imagined that the Bluebell Railway would get back to East Grinstead lol)
I walked this line from from Robertsbridge to Northiam in May 1979. I think there was no track at Junction Road but a mile or so past there was track but heavily overgrown . Had a nice ride on the K&ESR too.
