4:17 "That drummer listens to so much gospel" Good ear. You have no idea how right you are.

"Is this typical of Sleep Token?" It's a good question, but as someone who is familiar with them, the only thing typical of Sleep Token is having absolutely no clue what's coming next.

The lead singer is called Vessel who also writes all the lyrics and writes & plays the instruments apart from the drums.  ii is the drummer who writes and performs the drum parts.  On tour they have iii and iv who join them on guitar (and iv does some scream vocals as well as Vessel).  They are insanely talented.

This song is kind of a response to then being doxxed and fans getting a bit stalkery or shouting Vessel's real name while he is on stage.  It's kind of a gentle(ish) "leave us the fuck alone, please" from them.

Sleep Token is art. It's soul. It's talent. Beyond what you can imagine. Take the dive, you won't regret it.

It's not difficult to find out who the members of Sleep Token are... but difficult to survive the comment section if you say it in a video. Thankfully, you didn't.

II is an absolute unit of a drummer! Man's got chops for days. His orchestration on the kit is a must watch. He makes it look effortless, like he ain't even trying.

“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.”‬

One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to approach Sleep Token [as a Metal band]

They are simply a group of musicians who will play anything and everything that helps them convey the feelings they're trying to instill in you. Metal is just another tool in their bag that they reach for, but they reach for it just as often as they reach for Pop, Hip Hop, RnB, even Jazz and Funk at times. We just tend to talk about them in the Metal space because it's one of the most extreme ends of the spectrum, and if someone really [dislikes] Metal, they'll struggle with the majority of Sleep Token's discography.

Awesome reaction!

Look to Windward should be a great follow-up and is an excellent sampler of what this band usually does. But really, their discography is insane and each track will keep surprising you.

You should absolutely listen to The Summoning or Take Me Back To Eden.

Absolutely some of their best tracks.

Sleep Token spans a lot of genres and you correctly identified some of their influences (the drummer II is very gospel-influenced, Vessel is clearly influenced by modern R&B). If you want to hear more of that poppy R&B sound, check out Past Self and/or Provider from their latest album. If you want to hear them make a straight pop song, check out DYWTYLM (no live drums at all, just electronic beats). If you want to hear them get heavier, check out Vore or The Summoning, and if you want to hear him straight up rapping check out Ascensionism. If you want sweet falsettoes check out Gethsemane, and if you want more examples of genre blending check out Emergence or Take Me Back To Eden. Vessel plays everything but the drums and he writes the lyrics and sings all of the vocal layers. The drummer II has a Drumeo video where he plays through many of their songs and talks about his influences from gospel to drum and bass to metal, etc. The band tours with a bassist (III) and a guitarist (IV) and several back up singers to help replicate the layered vocal sound on their albums. The band sounds like gospel because they worship a god named Sleep, and the songs are offerings to this god. There is a story that runs through the first 3 albums if you pay close enough attention, but I'll be damned if I could tell you what it is, lol

You never really know what you're gonna get the first time you listen to a ST song.

ii, the drummer, uses an electronic drum pad for most of the beats that don't use real drums, so he still plays it.

Also, don't stress over trying to put them into a box with genres, Vessel doesn't factor that in when writing.

Vessel does authentically cry on stage in songs that personally meab a lot to him.

And a song on an album ends with him weeping

For your next Sleep Token song reaction. I would recommend Take me back to eden. By far one of there best songs.

I could literally recommend the entirety of their last two albums and you wouldn’t find a single miss in either ❤ these guys are so fricken talented

Vessel screams for recording but iv and Vessel scream live.

Now that's how a Sleep Token song posda be appreciated 👏 👍🔥

Vessel is very connected to his lyrics. The “sob effect” is almost certainly him holding back tears. You can look up a lot of live performances where he is struggling not to cry during certain songs.

“I’m so confused” if you listened with your heart instead of assuming labels there would be zero confusion. 👍

3:36 Just for a lil insight, having seen them live 4 times now, the reggaeton style drums are not actually backing track like most bands would do it, they are live drums played by II on a Roland multi pad that he has on the left side of his drum set & an electronic kick pedal trigger next to his right bass pedal. And also he's absolutely correct about II about being into gospel music. In fact when I expain to people what kind of band they are I say they're a gospel band for a deity named Sleep who lives in the lead singers dreams. Awesome reaction peeps. Keep listening to Sleep Token. WORSHIP! 🤘🙂‍↕️🤘

You definitely got to do every single song of them on this channel. Love to see musicians reacting to sleep token, one of the best things I've ever heard in 40'000 hours of music 🤌🏽
