100% agree with taxing churches. They need to show, with receipts, what they do for their communities.

I was talking about this with my sister and her bf yesterday. The church as an organization doesn’t see that it has become the church the BOM decries as evil. All about money, public acts of charity, etc.

Hey Nemo, a new podcast show idea, you and Britt start “Britt and a BrIt”. All jokes aside, thank you for the great video. I’ve been thinking a lot about these things.

This type of analytical discussion is fascinating and enjoyable. Much more of the same thing please.

@kristiekarpati9025 1 year ago

38:03 totally agree that churches should have to pay taxes on any money not used for actual charity.

I left the church before discovering and accepting that it wasn’t true. I left because it wasn’t good for me. I was stuck in a toxic cycle of guilt and shame fed by praying always for strength and forgiveness. I had to reject the morals defined by the church to protect my own sanity.

45:52 😂 I love the idea that a change with wearing underwear will be a "bottom up" change 😂

Thank you for reminding us of the power women had in the early church: anointing before childbirth, creating curriculum, using money to eliminate poverty. The hands that rock the cradle DO have power to change the world. Keep laying hands on your oxen in faith, ladies, and bless what’s in your stewardship to command!

I predict, one day, worthiness interviews will be called readiness interviews.

My son in laws sister and partner both were about to graduate from BYU after completing their PHD’s until the faculty found out they were a couple and were denied graduation. This has sent my son in law now on the exit route from Mormonism.

Don’t even get me started on garments. SOOOOO pissed. Major betrayal

Utah has a bigger problem than coffee currently...it is called soda...there are soda stores all over the place contributing to poor health, diabetes, obesity...so instead of tobacco and coffee, LDS in UT are addicted to sugar which is addictive as many drugs and just as dangerous in many cases.

I got reprimended for my sleeves not being long enough on my wedding dress, though my friend altered it for me! I was so humiliated by these older women looking down on me in the Temple!

@ChadTheJones 1 year ago

47:16 the long garment (ankles and wrist) was required in the temple for something like 40 years after the garment was allowed to be shortened. So there is precedent for reserving the true sanctity of the garment to the temple only. You were allowed to wear the short version, but the long version was required in the temple. I could definitely see garments be required in the temple and personal choice outside of the temple. I could see this change coming very soon.

Yeah, I do love how things that were pushed so hard 30+ years ago are now just a meh side note. Even better is the gaslighting that those were never a big deal. Like caffeine on the BYU campus. 35 years ago we had to go off campus to get our giant gulp of MD. There was a Harts right across the street from my dorm. Everyone knew why we couldn't get it on campus. Fast forward to a few years ago and they are saying that they didn't offer it because there was no demand. Riiiight.

@MsParrottScience 1 year ago

That's funny. I had a pastor in a 'non-denominational' Christian church say the same thing to me about why only men could be in leadership - because if women could do it, they would do it better giving men nothing to do. Men needed the challenge, he said, to rise to their best selves in the Lord. I didn't buy it.

I just heard Britt say that if women controlled some of the money in the church, "they would not ensign peak the money". I loved how she verbed that and I really think she's right.

What a breath of fresh air to hear people speak openly about issues in the church and what positive changes the church could implement. The most faithful see this kind of discussion as blasphemy, and ardent exmos often want it to burn. It takes thoughtful consideration from former members, those who still care about the health of the church, in order to start the conversation about meaningful change. What if President Nelson had access to YouTube and just happened upon this video?
