Sounds like you guys should sit down and have a chat. I'm sure Cade will be happy to do it. Send him an invite

In case  @chriswhitaker2443 ever comes back. We had a pleasant dialogue, and he posted a long reply to me, going out of his way to respond to me in a kind way. I created a long response for him, but now he's deleted all his comments for some reason! (It might be he thought I was uninterested, because I took about 24 hours to respond because I had a migraine the next day). So, here's my response, hoping that at some point he's able to read it.

@chriswhitaker2443  Thanks for your honestly, attitude, and effort! It's a breath of fresh air compared to others.I totally know what you mean about us just being on completely different pages in regards to the issue of salvation in general. You can't prove the Mormon position using Scripture, because even Mormon doctrine teaches that the full Gospel was lost. That said, if there's literally zero evidence of something, throughout all history, all archeology, etc. then I just couldn't bring myself to blindly believe in this missing theology, just because a man says God told him so (especially once you look into the life of Joseph Smith).I know what you're trying to say with the comment about me being willfully blind. The other side of that coin is that your belief is a blind belief (the fact that this worked out allegorically is mere coincidence). I require a reason to believe, you choose to believe, even though (as you've noted) there's no reason for it at all throughout the Bible or history.

You compare the evidence of the resurrection to the evidence of the gold plates. I've done quite a deep dive into the resurrection, it's evidences, and the counters from skeptics (if you're interested, I did a lot of work on this for my podcast, which goes into a lot of good details). I've looked at the evidence for the Book of Mormon, and I don't find it at all comparable, despite you trying to say it's better. Firstly, Joseph Smith and his friends were very much benefitting from their lies. The disciples were not benefitting at all, in fact, they were being severely persecuted. You'll likely say the Mormons were being persecuted, but that was largely for non-religious reasons. People were scared of the excessive and obsessive polygamy. They were scared of the political power being abused (which is historically undeniable). There was a literal private militia involved, owned by a man who was committing treason. All the while, the "eyewitnesses" were still benefitting from the stories they were telling.

This is just an aside, but it's also actually technically possible to admit the eyewitnesses of the golden plates, and still disbelieve in the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith didn't actually handle the plates while translating them. He put a magic rock in his hat called a seer's stone, and then shoved his head in his hat, and "saw" the interpretation. There's even video of official Mormon scholars discussing this (it's one of the most ridiculous discussions I've ever witnessed). So, realistically, the plates didn't even need to exist for Joseph Smith to give his "interpretation". But here's my point for this paragraph. Joseph Smith also got access to an old papyrus, which he said was the Book of Abraham (I'm sure you're aware of this controversy). He gave details, explained who the characters in the images were, etc. and it's all completely false. We know this now, because in the past 200 years we've been able to actually translate it, and it's absolutely nothing like what Smith said. So, Smith legitimately had access to a real Egyptian Papyrus, and yet, his translation was bogus, and he was proven to be a liar. Although I don't personally believe this, it's still very possible that Joseph Smith really did have golden plates, and really did show them to people. However, he could then have just made up the whole interpretation, in the same way he did with his make believe "Book of Abraham".

I mostly agree with your point about my bias. At this point, because of my study, I don't think I can approach the Book of Mormon without bias. As an example, OJ Simpson committed murder, but he got away with it. He wrote a book titled "If I did it", which is essentially his confession, going into all the details of how he murdered those people, but presented as a hypothetical so it couldn't be used against him. Once you look at the details surrounding the case, it's obvious he was guilty. Could anyone, knowing all the details surrounding the murders, and believing OJ was guilty, then go and read his book, and actually cause themselves to really sit back and try to see it as a legitimate hypothetical story? Definitely not. If a person was capable of doing that, I imagine it would do damage to their psyche. Now that I have studied the life of Joseph Smith (from both anti-Mormon sources, and the Mormon organization's own publications), there's just no way I could ever consider him anything but a liar, a criminal, a con artist, an adulterer, and even a user of magic (the magic point is self-admitted by the Mormon organization, as I'm sure you know, Joseph Smith used folk magic to "translate" the golden plates). That's not to mention the problem with the total lack of archeological data for the claims in the BoM, the anachronisms, the absurdity of the non-seafaring Jews being a group to travel that distance, plus many other problems. I can approach the BoM for the purpose of trying to understand, but I can't possibly blind myself to what I know regarding all of this, and try to force myself to treat it seriously. And if I did attempt that, I would actually worry for my mental health, because forcing something like that upon yourself has very negative consequences.

I know my comment here is quite negative, but I really do appreciate you taking the time and effort, and still being kind.

If we believe in the reform, doesn't that make us believe in an apostasy? I think that if we don't believe in the reform, then we should be catholics

the broader Christian tradition is not united, and because of that (according to the Bible) cannot belong to Christ.

Or an obvious third option: you obstinately mischaracterize the quotes, positions, and opinions you’ve assembled to launch a polemical attack against Mormons.

I hope you review your scripts and quotes more carefully moving forward as you repeatedly swap terms and phrases you assume are synonymous, but actually create such a lack of precision as to undermine your own arguments. We can affirm your sincere belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (making you Christian) while rejecting your authority claims and traditions. You’re conflating individual, pastoral language with institutional language.

I stopped when you began inserting your presups and mischaracterizations, "left the true Christian faith" is your wishful thinking of what apostasy means to LDS. Apostasy means lost authority. It's not hard. Other than lies, if I left LDS for what you believe what more can you give me in my relationship to Jesus Christ? 0:39

Mormons see "Christians" as Christians. They just view them as having a very preschool understanding of what it means to be Christian.
Like the difference between playing with legos and working a real construction site.  but many denominations are children choking on their legos. never making any progress in the gospel.    So mormons take them at their word,  if they claim to be sincere and genuine in their belief, grant them their title.

You are conflating "Christian" with a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. A Christian, as defined in the Bible, is someone who believes in the death and resurrection of Christ, who is God, who died to redeem all those who would believe on Him AND who would follow the Savior's own words, "by this ye may know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

So belief in Christ and love for your fellow man, as Christ loved us. Do I believe that church apostatized? Absolutely. I think Christianty is its own proof of that. But do I think that all Christians didn't believe in Christ and couldn't love others as Christ did? Absolutely not. So Kade is right. We do believe many Christians are true christians. But we also know that in every church and denomination there are those who profess Christ (professors as Christ called them in Josephs vision), but their hearts are far from Him, or they don't do what He asks, that is, to love God and love others.

So your conflation of the great apostasy, with our belief that there are many wonderful Christians throughout the world outside of our church, is illogical, despite the great apostasy that was prophesied in the Bible and actually did occur.

buddy tell the truth you didn’t win any gotcha moments with your unbiblical presuppositional evangelical pov…blinders blocking any chance of learning and loving more

There is no evidence or reason that a Great Apostasy occured other than there needs to be one or else the LDS church is fraudulent.

Also, they may call us "Christian",  but under their framework, a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, and Atheist can achieve the same outcome.  So of what good is the Christian's Christianity?

You made a video where you thought you understood the LDS view on a topic. A well-informed LDS said you were mistaken in your understanding. But you're going to double down that your understanding is correct and he's the one that's wrong? Bro. Why would you be so obstinate as to dig in that you understand the LDS viewpoint better than Cade?

Oh brother...you actually believe he's lying. He's lying because you've got it all figured out. Sure.

When it talks about the idea the gospel was lost it obviously is referring to the fullness of the gospel. There were clearly many people who believed in Jesus and worshiped God. But essential doctrines like the nature of God, the Godhead, and correct manner of ordinances like baptism by immersion for the remission of sins by someone holding the priesthood or authority of God was corrupted and changed.
So yes we absolutely think that there was an apostasy, no one is disputing that. But that doesn’t follow there were no sincere Christians anymore who were doing their best with the light and knowledge they had. So grateful for the restoration of the gospel to answer so many questions and bring more light and truth into the world
