Watch my interview on Nemo's channel all about how to be an ExMormon! This was a great conversation to have, especially since he's so recently joined the ExMormon ranks. You can watch our interview on his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPqtyzBinyM

I'm so used to mormonism being very "American" that hearing about a British Mormon is wild to me

My grandma was so proud to be excommunicated. She had the letter . Because of this my father didn’t grow up in Idaho but rather the Bay Area . I was born because of the excommunication . My grandma asked to many questions. That’s how she was ex out . She is super hard working , very smart . She eventually was sent to someone , that didn’t satisfy her questions. Demanded higher up , higher up until she was told to literally be quiet ! No more questions . She passed away in 2007 . She was 80 when she died . I was only 15 when she told me the details. Not only was it a long time ago . I’m 46 now . But I knew nothing at all about Mormon church . I wish we could talk about it again now . Love you Nonnie . My dad still says , whew , I was almost a farm boy in Idaho ! Instead of just going for the summers .

I so appreciate Nemo’s thoughtfulness in his responses and the nuance with which he approaches his faith the Mormon Church. It’s also so beautiful to watch Alyssa as an ex-Mormon hold her beliefs while respecting Nemo’s evolving beliefs and holding space for the differences between them. THIS is what religious conservations should look like.

Fascinating that he said he loved the endowment ceremony and still wishes he could go back to the temple now. I think it may speak to the difference in the men’s vs women’s experience in the temple ceremonies.

Nemo is a good example of why religious people often don’t want their kids too educated. You can tell he is a thinker.

I'm so glad to live in a time when this sort of content is available. Mormonism has always been commented on in media, but former members have a much more interesting perspective in my opinion. I wasn't raised religious, but religiosity is so widespread where I grew up in rural America that religious practices will forever be intriguing to me. Thank you, Alyssa and Nemo, for sharing your varied experiences within a system that could create so much happiness for others (or spend money truly helping their disciples) that chooses not to prioritize charitability, kindness, and candor.

i can really feel the pain in nemo's voice when he talks about the church's choice to send him to essentially mormon hell and divorce him spiritually from his wife. i really hope that he continues his spiritual journey, i can tell it brings him guidance in his life, even if he has to do it without the institution of the church.

Being from Europe, it's so interesting to hear about the story of a fellow European who grew up in the church! Thanks for sharing!

I'm really sorry for Nemo's experience, the mormon church was in every part of his life since birth, he was an active member that actually liked and wanted to fight for better things, he did so for decades. It is the most cruel when the doctrine and church goes against the people who believe and follow it the most, because it is also the people that will hurt the most from the rejection.

This reminds me of my grandma, a devout catholic that suffered for years in a vebally abusive marriage because she believes that "what God unites, man can't sepparate". She finally left when their children became adults and he began to be physically aggressive. But she still felt guilty and like a sinner; she spent years going to the church and believing she wasn't worthy to recieve communion, because the priests kept telling her that. She only started to commune again when my grandpa died 7 years ago, because now by the rules she follows, she is a widow.

You helped me so much with my journey deconstructing. Even though Im still a minor who cannot technically get out until I hit 18- you’ve helped me so much ❤

I was EX-COMMUNICATED from this church in 2005. The very same day that happened; word spread faster than the covid virus.
The "whole world" new I was ex-communicated. And then, everyone STOPPED talking to me, being my friend, etc.....I was now the most evil person in the world. I was put on suicide watch because I lost everyone and everything important to me.

The church leaders in Utah tell members that if someone gets ex-communicated that they SHOULD show more love and understanding to the individual. And to help said person to get their life back in righteousness. The very opposite happened to me. I was hated and dropped like trash.

Welcome back Alyssa. I hope you are feeling better ❤

It seems to me that peeps who leave/get excummunicated, were the most loyal, most sincere and conscientious Mormons. They seemed to be the ones who expended the most effort and were truly faithful.
When the truth becomes known, the sense of betrayal must be overwhelming. Reminds me of a George Carlin quote, "Cynics are just disillusioned idealists.". Nemo, I have really enjoyed your commentory these last few years. You're brilliant, witty and all around cool. Thanks to both of you.

I think the Catholic parallel to a saving ordinance is a sacrament, I didn’t realize it at first but the explanation in this video clicked that for me. (Ex-Catholic here!)

Apostacy had a different definition until the last 2 decqdes. Apostasy used to be defined as denying the holy ghost, which was almost impossible to achieve.
Now, they get their feelings hurt and they call it apostacy.

Im glad i took my power back and resigned.
