The live version from LA 1985 with the story about him, his dad, and nearly getting drafted to vienam, then he just bursts into The River, is one of the most incredible things ever captured in live music

"Is a dream a lie if it don't come true?  Or is it something worse?"  This is my favorite line in my favorite Springsteen song.  This song is a masterpiece on so many levels.  Thank you for doing this song.

The way he says "Now those memories come back to HAUNT ME...!" gets me every time!

Peak Springsteen. Everyone thinks about what their life has become when they hear this song.

Springsteen has the perfect storyteller voice. You're invested from the first line. Listening to him is like sitting next to a friend at the bar, sharing beers and stories both happy and sad. The Boss always.

The moment that harmonica hits at around 1 minute makes me nearly cry. The River might be one of the greatest songs ever written.

His guitarist Steve Van Zandt once stated that when Bruce performs you feel like he’s talking just to you. I remember the first time I saw him during the Born in the USA tour and that’s exactly how I felt, even amongst 60,000 other people.

Once you hears this Song, it  haunts you again and again and it lingers in your mind….

"No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisle, no flowers, no wedding dress"...brillant

From the opening notes of the harmonica, I can feel myself tearing up knowing what is coming in the lyrics

One of the most widely relatable songs ever. If you're working class and you don't know somebody in real life who this song could be about then you have exceptionally lucky friends.

"though I know the river is dry" just breaks me every time. I remember crying on a car trip listening to this on my discman when I was probably 12 years old. She's all he has left, and he's scared he has nothing left to offer her.

Just so you know, this song was about his sister. When she came to his concert and heard it for the first time, she came to him backstage in tears and said "You were telling the story of my life"

I dedicate this song to all the fathers that busted their asses for their families and are no longer with us. Many of them gave up their dreams for us.

Didn't really appreciate this song when I was younger but I've just turned 70 and can't hear it without tearing up.

For me, this song illustrates more fully than any other the raw heartbreak of most ordinary working people's lives. A tragic, majestic masterpiece.

To me, this man is everything that America could have been and should have been. He saw where it went the wrong way all the time and packed it into words and music, and while many people listened to the message, not enough really heard it. The prophet in the desert... Thanks, Bethany, wonderful to see how he appeals to you as much as he does to me!

One constant in 55+ years: There is nothing like a Bruce Springsteen concert.

" The River"  is impeccable.

Bruce is such a strong front man, I think people under rate just how excellent the E Street Band really is.
