Painting in a Plein Air Competition

I took a road trip to Prescott, AZ to participate in a Plein Air Invitational Competition called Art in the Pines. I focus on having fun and making good work rather than focusing on the compeition aspect. I create 9 paintings (display 6) in 4 days and show the paintings in a group exhibition at the end. Do I win? I really enjoyed this video! You gave a good feel for what it's like there, at the event. I loved how you panned the camera to show the scenery you were looking at, and talking about the sun changing, your thought process, all of that I found helpful. I've been doing plein air painting this summer near Olympia WA, and it's been great! I have a real hard time in the heat though, I don't know how I'd do in Arizona! Your van set up is really neat. And all the frames ready for the paintings, how cool to see. Thanks for making this video, and I would love to see more like this!

Sorry I didn't make it to the show. Congratulations for your award. I moved to Prescott the first of the year and have been working hard on my painting--a post-retirement occupation. Was in Taos for almost 14 years learning what I could about painting. Have been following your videos--please keep it up am enjoying your approach. Jon

I really enjoyed seeing your setup and process without too much "instructional" stuff. As a prefessional studio painter this sort of thing really teaches me what I need to bring my practice outdoors without feeling preachy. Your work was gorgeous, by the way. A well deserved award!

Nice paintings! My favorite was the 12x12 with the backlit clouds. And I like your approach to the festival - not as competition. Some people have that competitive frame of mind but it puts so much pressure on the process by focusing on the outcome.
