Life lessons by Drach.
It’s best to have the enemy ship explode, not your own.

Midshipman Beatty: Oh I’ll just skip one day of class. How important can it be?

A Drachinifel upload is like a safe harbour in a sea of slop.

8:55 Asbestos never fails!!!  (The trade-off is certain death now from explosion vs possible death in 30 years from lung cancer.)

"Make the enemy die screaming in a fire" is now my mantra for today.

Hipper swallows heavily as he realized just how close he came to disaster at Dogger Bank before Germany learnt the lessons of unsafe ammunition handling.
Britain would unfortunately have to wait for the much largr Jutland battle to learn these lessons

19:25 My first time seeing a genuine authentic 1910 LED Light Bulb

It's strangely reassuring when Drach says "Another dangerous development".

"Don't worry the enemy just hit our shells, not the powder. The shells exploding will destroy the enemy projectile before it has a CHANCE of reaching the powder"

That drawing of Liberté is jaw-dropping. When your own ammo turns on you.

12 seconds to recommend. Youtube knows i like big boats and explosions

The recollection of the San Salvador's powder explosion in 1588 highights the enduring mindset of the military brass across time that explosions outside of combat are always to be reported as caused by "disgrunted crewman".

Being tasked with forcefully encouraging the avoidance of sparks or other ignition sources on warships during an age when all portable light came from burning wicks and literally everyone smoked tobacco... that's got to be a pretty rough and thankless job.

And on that bombshell, we end this episode.

Good night, see you next week.

The irony of a WoWS sponsorship on the magazine explosion video when they don't even have magazine detonations, while ships in War Thunder use them as a central game mechanic.

Thanks to this educational video I now fully expect to not explode for at least several years.
Highly recommended.

FYI for all. I always wondered why it was called a 'magazine'. So I looked it up so you don't have to.  Comes from the Arabic word makhzan, which means "storehouse", which became the Italian magazzino and Middle French magasin, and eventually magazine.  Use of magazine in naval uses actually predates it's use as a periodical. Who da thunk.

Lots of people mentioning Beaty, with good reason... but I want to say:

Remember the Maine! Insulate your magazines from your coal bunkers!

re: shell storage outside magazines. One complication was the variety of shells that might be needed. There were three or more types: armour piercing, semi armour piercing (base fused), high explosive, common, star and so on. Shells on the way from the magazine might be in the way of the next shell wanted. If a star shell is needed, it might be needed soon. You might be fighting in the line, and suddenly want to swat a destroyer and so on. A couple of shells in the turret could be useful, a handling room even more so.
