Which Billy Joel classics should I cover next?

Let’s not forget he’s a genius of slash chords, as shown.

Love it, don't understand it but still love it.

Great Video! Love all of these songs but Vienna will always be my #1

Well done sir

How about an exploration of “This Night”, the portion Billy borrowed from Ludwig van Beethoven and how he applied it?

Great explanation (and demonstration!) - "required reading" for all musicians!

Re transition from the one chord switching from major to minor, I’ve seen that used tonnes by other songwriters. Often it’s going from minor to major to give it a Bit of a boost. One that co es to mind is George Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Another is an older tune Runaway. Starts of in tue minor and then switches it to major for the chorus. There are lots of others, but just a few off the top of my head. That said, I love Billy Joel and his ability to jump around between keys. He is a master.

Excellent video. I've always said Billy Joel is one of the greatest songwriting craftsmen of all time. And it's for exactly the reasons you outlined in this video. His songs manage to be simultaneously catchy and innovative. That, to me, is the hardest combination to pull of in music. It takes great skill to hide your innovations in a pop song. Other songwriters who I think are masters of this are Burt Bacharach and Stevie Wonder. Actually, there was a lot of this kind American songbook-inspired innovation going on in the '70s.

Anyway, I just subscribed to the channel. Looking forward to whoever you cover next.
