One thing I liked very much on RaspberryPi and other SBCs, they bring the fun part of computing, like early days of Home Computers.

As I've gotten older, I do so enjoy a bolder font.  Down with spindly fonts!

I had no idea how much work you put into this, like with the video editing. Thanks for everything.

The greatest thing the Pi has done for us is to show us how little resources, and power, we need for most of what we do. Even if we don't do as much as Chris!

As someone who grew up with the 1980's home computers, I just love this form factor for a computer.

As a student in university who's watched you long before I was in university I must say I love your content

I always know when daylight savings time ends in the UK because the ExplainingComputers video posts one hour later than usual here in the U.S. :-)

This is a very information-dense video. I learned more in the first four minutes of this video than I generally do from an hour-long video by almost anyone else.

Looks like a classic computer from the 1980s, like a Atari ST or Commodore Amiga 500.

Great video to show how capable SBCs like the Pi5(00) can be. And I think one of the biggest selling points that make this the better choice over an x86 machine is that they kept full access to the tinkering potential alive with the GPIO pins. After all those were one of the many reasons Raspis have become the beloved first choice for millions of people.

A week with Pi 500 is the challenge I appreciate, Chris 😊!

It is remarkable, the accessibility afforded by just four A76 cores. I've done my fair share of digital photo restoration, so I'm familiar with open source alternatives in that space, but video editing is another thing entirely. I've not done any since VHS was new. Good to see Resolve has some competition. You've really put this 500+ through its paces.

5:57 I think this is the first time I saw somebody editing the beginning of a video and it’s the exact video I’m watching 🤣.

The Rasberry Pi Os menu and icons remind me very much of Puppy LInux. (Collecting 'Puppies' is my hobby.)

The comfort you feel with the Pi versus the discomfort you feel with a stock x86 OS. The amount of effort required to get rid of the superfluous software and settings on a mini pc is daunting (your past videos on the subject have been helpful 🙂)

If Chris can survive a week on a Pi500+ then so can I!

The Pi 5 for me has finally been a suitable desktop experience. For the last year or so it has been my primary computer, using it about 95% of the time or more. Only every now and then I will pull out a laptop to render out long 12 hour videos, just so that it doesn't take many days of time on the Pi.

One thing I've found very useful is to define the following keyboard shortcuts:

xrandr -s 2560x1440

xrandr -s 1920x1080

xrandr -s 1280x720

Using the commands above, I switch around the display resolution on-the-fly, primarily to get better performance when playing youtube videos. The speed gain when dropping to a lower resolution has been very helpful for other tasks too, like gaming or recording my screen.

Nice to see your advice on the BBC news article today. Shame they didn’t link to your channel and backup videos.

”I’ll talk to you… tomorrow!” :-)

For me, the form factor is the key. It's very clearly a modern refinement of the old 8/16bit wedge computer days, and I love that about it.  As well as running modern OS's, it would be a perfect little machine for emulating those old computers, too.
