Big Red might be 40 years old, but we’re asking this tiny campervan to power a very modern off-grid setup!
This week, we replace its original alternator with a higher-output unit and install the BLUETTI Charger 2, which combines alternator charging with the 475W of solar on our roof. Finding an alternator that could fit this unusual little van was difficult enough, but getting it installed required a little custom work.
Once everything is connected, it’s time to start Big Red and find out whether the new charging system actually works. We also tackle a few smaller jobs as we get closer to taking our tiny 4x4 campervan on its first proper adventure.

im sure. u would eventually need a alternator. but would be interesting to see the difference from just wiring can do

Nice altenator modification
It is sometimes difficult to find suitable parts for an older car
In my project (MAN diesel KAT) I added an altenator simply because it was possible
this one is specifically for my Bluetti Gear ( 2x Apex 300 + 4x extra batteries + Dc charger 2 )
All in compact box with two built in computer fans for heat dissipation
the rear curtain looks perfect, A nice exstencion of the VAN,
and you stay nice and dry
