The only midnight release I've ever been to was Skyrim's. Me and three of my buddies went to the local Play N Trade, all high af, and one of my friends proceeded to lead the entire store in singing Queen songs. After we got our copies, we all went back to my friend's apartment where we'd all brought over our 360s and TVs and lined them up in a row so we could play the game together. After a while one of my friends starts freaking out and laughing his ass off pointing to his TV. He'd stumbled across a giant camp near Whiterun and a giant had launched him into orbit. The rest of us immediately ran off toward that giant camp to try to replicate his experience. Good times.

I remember in Oblivion I made an Orc character whose skin was so shimmering white that he actually emitted light in the dark. Great game

names himself Baggins "Why is everyone three feet taller than me?"

I'd also mention that Elder Scrolls lore feels more like actual history and mythology than any other media I've ever encountered which really adds to the depth of the world

My mom bought me and my two brothers Skyrim Christmas 2011, when we opened it she said “you guys are gonna play it for a month and then forget about it.” It’s been 13 years and we’re all still playing skyrim — we played that 360 copy for a good 7 years before buying a new gen copy. If it had been any other game she would have been correct, but Skyrim was just different like that

Todd Howard got so traumatised by redguard being obsolete so quick that he overdid it by releasing skyrim for every system

Just a note on the map size of Arena and Daggerfall, while Arena theoretically has the biggest map because it contains the entire continent, Daggerfall's map blows it out of the water in actual playable size. It has by far the largest map in the series and one of the largest fully playable maps of all time.

"All the NPCs were taller than me, for some reason." ~ ; Well, you were crouching xD

This video is outdated.

Correction. Back in 1994, USUALLY you’d get what’s called A Player’s Guide in whatever container the game comes in. This taught you the mechanics, keybinds, etc.

It always seems like people forget a time when games came with manuals that explained the mechanics and controls of a game. People always just call the games "Difficult and obtuse" when in reality they simply don't have all of the media necessary.

I was a gamestop employee during the release of Skyrim and worked the midnight release. It didnt matter what genre any of the regulars of the store played, they all showed up together for the same game and it was such an unforgettable night. Im forever grateful to have experienced such a special time in gaming.

After rewatching this video, just wanted to let you know you can heal in Arena which i found out in my current playthrough. The campfire button lets you rest until fully healed but will be interrupted if enemies get to close.

Incase anyone needed to know

One thing I think is especially notable about daggerfall is even though morrowind set the standard for how the worlds would be designed, daggerfall kind of did that for the gameplay in the series. You level up skills by using them, you can pay trainers to improve skills, you rest to level up. It also established the way side quests and guilds work (even down to murdering people to get noticed by the dark brotherhood), and factions and reputation, all in a DOS game from 1996 that came out the same year as Quake. It's kind of insane what they accomplished with the limited tech/hardware of the time

Thank you for mentioning my long long long journey across the map in Daggerfall.

@mikehawk8984 2 years ago

Lol how did you not notice that you were crouched the entire time in Daggerfall?

Just sitting there like "Damn. They made the Argonians short as fuck in this one" 🤦‍♂️🤣

14:36 i as 16, went to my local pc shop, seen a shelf full of copies of this game. Looked the back of the box intrigued, unaware of what massive impact this game would have on my life...i showed it to my best friend, we spent days and nights enlessly playing on pc, making different characters, exploring, basking in the environments, in complete awe at the amount of freedom a game could even bestow upon us. Played that game solid til oblivion. Then oblivion blew us away beyond belief. Then 2011 i stood in line for my first midnight release ever for skyrim... played that game solid for 10 years. Now back I went for oblivion remastered, in hopes they finish elder scrolls 6..
