Treehouse of Horror is a series of annual Halloween-themed anthology episodes of the American animated sitcom and spin-off of The Simpsons. Also known as The Simpsons Halloween Specials, each episode typically consists of three separate, self-contained segments. Each segment involves the Simpson family in some comical horror, science fiction, or supernatural setting; plot elements operate beyond the show's normal continuity, with segments exaggeratedly more morbid and violent than a typical Simpsons episode. With 35 episodes as of 2024, each Treehouse of Horror episode is numbered in Roman numerals, one less than the respective season it is in.

The out of nowhere randomness of Lisa yelling “DAD! YOUR HAND IS JAMMED IN THE TOASTER!” always makes me laugh like an insane woman

“No TV and no beer make Homer something, something”
“Go crazy … ?”
“DoN’t MiNd If i Do!”

I still quote
"no tv and no beer make Homer something, something."
"Go crazy?"
"DON'T MIND IF I DO!"
to this DAY. You're really able to twist it to fit the enviornment of the times.

The 3D Homer segment was mind blowing for me as a kid when it came out because CGI wasn't used EVERYWHERE for EVERYTHING back then. Seeing a cartoon turn 3D, especially on TV and not just in big budget movies, was quite a spectacle.

Let's be frank. Even in the weaker seasons of The Simpsons. The Treehouse of Horror has always been a highlight.

The short where Lisa makes a tiny civilization and watches them evolve at an advanced rate is a parody of the short story Microcosmic God. But now whenever anyone else uses that concept people call it a reference to the Simpsons.

Fun fact: I got to see Treehouse of Horror VI before it aired. My Dad wrote radio advertisements for FOX so he’d get the shows on tape early to write his copy. They had no music or sound effects yet, just the animation and voice overs. And for VI, the 3D segment would be a blue screen anytime Homer or Bart are in the CGI world - I believe because at the time CGI took much longer to render than traditional animation. I had absolutely no idea what was happening with those voiceovers; Bart screaming “You’ll have to jump” against a blue-screen is etched in my mind. Then to see it when it aired was mind blowing.

I love the vampire one especially the part with Abe Simpson.

Abe: Quick, he have to kill the boy!
Marge: How'd you know he's a vampire?
Abe: He's a vampire?! Aaaah!
Runs out of the room.
