If E-Jae doesn't win an Oscar for this song / Soundtrack I will be seriously upset.  The music is wonderful K-Pop of course, the vocals are tight and spot on, but the lyrics are absolutely sublime.  They don't just fit the themes of the film, they fit the moments depicted.  What I love most though is that the lyrics carry an incredibly well defined message without being pendantic.  And the message is positive, kind and perhaps the one message people around the world really needed to hear right now.  There's no shame in being who you are.  If you can accept yourself, others will do the same and walk beside you .  I know "Golden" is the big hit from the film, but I find this song to be my favorite because it really does every single thing it needs to do to help both the story and the viewers reach the climax and conclusion of the film.   The harmonies are amazing and the vocals are so strong.  What a great song!  Hell, I'm in my 60's (I watched the film with my granddaughter) and I put this song on my playlist.

So many people are obsessed with Golden (which is objectively a fantastic song) but I'm over here playing this song on repeat all day every day

I'm 50 years old. I accepted that I was shattered beyond repair before I was even an adult. I thought it made me useless. It took me a long long time to realize that there's "beauty in the broken glass" and a mosaic is just as beautiful as an unbroken piece.

So yeah, this resonates with me.

I firmly believe that this song is an anthem for all the weird kids....all those who were told to "act normal" "stop being weird"...this is showing us to be who we are, let the world see us for who we are, and don't let anything or anyone stop you from living as you are.

It also makes me think of the Japanese art of kintsugi, where they take a broken bowl or vase, and repair it with gold or silver, highlighting the damage and letting it be beautiful rather than trying to disguise it

This song has more emotional weight than Golden. This is not your typical Disney princesses. All 3 characters have flaws. Joey parents are divorced. She is torn between Korean and American culture. Mira whose parents who rejected her because she was wild. Rumi's dad was a demon, yeah  childhood trauma right there.

I always cry when the crowd join in singing. This song is powerful

The structure of the message underlying this is so good. Striving for perfection will always break you. But finding your ideal self IS BETTER THAN PERFECT.

It's fascinating how many different people react to and analyse this wonderful movie. Artists, composers, animators, vocal coaches, musicians, movie reactors and mental health experts. The title and concept sound so silly, but it's really deep and awesome. That the animation is outstanding is helping too. 🙂

For me this movie is a perfect example of a comparison between modern Hollywood and animated movies (especially anime), I read some time ago: "Real people, fake emotions vs. Fake people with real emotions.

I think there will be annual onion cutting festival each time song this song is played. This song really hit you in the feels.

I love the sassy walk they do after the stopped hugging, like "You f&cked up. It's time to kick your ass now." So much confidence in that walk.

And if anyone didn't notice. When they meet in the center, after they hugged. Mira and Zoey outfits turned white, their sleeves have designs like Rumi patterns, to show true harmony

You can't hear it in this version, but I love how the audience is singing the melody of "Golden" as the girls are fighting.

6:41 actually the line is "so we're not heroes, we're still survivers"

this song got me crying when i first saw it on shorts... even before watching the film. when watching, knowing the context, the journey,  it just hit the feels even more

E-Jae really deserves all awards that are possible for the music as she wrote most the songs.. but What It  Sounds Like.. it is one of the most breathtaking songs in a long time. I hope she gets an Oscar for this

I am 38 and this song hit a nerve I didn't realize I even had until after hearing it for the first time... and I've listened to it so many times since and still can't listen to it without tearing up.

This is the song that stops my 4 year old granddaughter in her tracks and she sings the whole thing. She is obsessed with the whole movie but this one is her favourite song.

This is absolutely one of those rare things from a movie soundtrack that is two different songs based on if you saw it. While I am sure its moving on its own, It hits like a truck when you know the context.

And if the Gorillaz could tour so can Huntr/x :)

Well, technically this is a musical.
The story is progressed and explained through the songs.

What I love in that harmony is subtle but just that up-tempo note... I think Zoey's... that just solidifies the hopeful and empowered tone and tells you it's not just okay to be you but it's okay to hope... like it's just joyful and they could have just kept the more subdued tone but yeah just adding that little touch completely elevates it and sets the real pace for the rest of the song. chef's kiss Every facet of this film from the writing to the songs to the animation was all just made with sheer love.
