Danny went from “I don’t like Ranpo” to “I genuinely like Ranpo, he’s the most complex character of this show, his breakdown almost made me cry and his backstory are the best episodes of the show”
He’s right though lol

In the light novel, Ranpo's parents are the only ones who can understand how he thinks and are humble people despite being smart. So Ranpo thought that since his parents treated him the same and were smart, everyone was the same. He is frustrated thinking that everyone must hate him so much by playing tricks on him by pretending to be dumb. Hence Fukuzawa making Ranpo think his intelligence is due to an 'ability' is more humble than spelling to him outright that 'no, he just happens to be a super genius with crazy intelligence'.

Bungou stray dogs season 4 is so good it got Danny to care about Ranpo. These writers are creating miracles

"i would be so down for a romantic subplot involving ranpo"
- poe has entered the chat

I love that Danny just can't get over Ranpo's inability to use the subway.

As a person who's on the spectrum, (ASD,) Ranpo's character feels just so thought out for me. I'm sure that the author's intention wasn't to make Ranpo neurodivergent, but at the same time he has so many characteristics that lead me to believe he is. Even if not intentionally, it's well done in my opinion. He has difficulty with volume, isn't able to form connections that well, as well as other general symptoms. But more importantly, It shows how he doesn't understand social cues, and how he misunderstands what others are trying to convey to him. He's scared because he can't comprehend all of that, and it's one of the few things he doesn't understand about the world. Ranpo is such a brilliant character, in many ways. He can see past people with just a glance, so you'd think he isn't afraid of these people. But not at all, the thing that scares him most is the society around him. A detective who's scared of the unknown is such a great narrative in my mind.

I went on a bit of a rant, but I just HAD to talk about the silly guy.

Oh Danny, see, in the lite novel, we DID get to hear Fukuzawa's internal monologue in the moment that he decided to tell Ranpo that he has an ability. Here: "Raising Ranpo like an ordinary person. What an astounding feat it must have been. To have Ranpo perceive his own world as ordinary, to have him think of himself as absolutely normal, without a single thing to distinguish him from others, how incredible of a challenge it must have been. Ranpo's parents managed to accomplish that, despite all the odds. With the transcendental mental skills both of them possessed. What on earth can you call that, if not love? The two of them - long before Ranpo could mature properly, long before he could stand up and face the world with enough resolve, they left this world, as if someone plucked them away. After that, his cocoon torn up and stripped off, what remained was just an underage, genius larva. Fukuzawa's clenched fist was sweating. No matter how strong of an enemy he had been up against in the past, he had never feared his opponent as much as he did right now. Having lost his cocoon, Ranpo was now truly on the verge of being crushed by the outside world. If he were to make a mistake at this point, there would be no way to undo it".

Fun fact: Apparently in the light novels Fukuzawa images himself either killing or ditching Ranpo frequently, but doesn't. I'm assuming he just has a lot of restraint and self control.

"hes like my least favourite character next to-"
shows ranpo
"IS THIS A SEASON ABOUT MY 2 LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTERS???"

nah but this got me

in the fandom we have agreed that the romantic subplot for ranpo is edgar allan poe. hear us out on this one danny

Danny: I would be so down with a romantic sub plot involving Ranpo.

Poe: am I a joke to you?

Yosano actually gets really deep and well written once you get to her backstory

As someone on the autism spectrum, I feel Ranpo on a deep level, I teared up and started crying when he talked about how scared he was because I understand that...

Holy shit he's finally watching the fourth season
This is the best season
I'm not even kidding I'm so excited there are so many moments where I cant wait to see Danny's reaction
Tho he might be annoyed cuz the first part mostly focuses on ranpo

4:14 "you look like youre 14" so heres the thing right

17:41 IS KILLING ME HAHAHHA

To put it in a shortened way, it's in black and white to represent what Ranpo thought/saw of the world. Then, when the president gave that speech to Ranpo, everything went in colour because it showed that the president was the one who brought light to Ranpo, so Ranpo in the present isn't obnoxious for no reason, it's just showing that he's more stable in a way. Also, the president is his father figure.

2:51 “you WILL love Ranpo.” I chant as im dragged into an asylum

I work with kids with ASD, and immediately read that Ranpo was neurodivergent when he said "It's like everybody else gets something that I just don't get".  That line made so much of his character make sense for me.
