:: About this channel ::
'This Little Wonderful Life' started off as a place for me to combat my anxieties about life by focusing on the good bits, the people, places and experiences that I love. Not glossing over the bad bits, but not letting them consume me either. You will find weekly (sometimes daily!) vlogs about my life in England, and adventures further afield, to inspire you and offer you a little bit of cosy time. If you enjoy slow travel, days out, and finding joy in the everyday, I'd love it if you subscribed :)

On this channel we keep comments respectful to others. Degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated and will be removed.

For my 50th I went on holiday all on my own! And walked the Norfolk coastal path. It was bliss! X

For your list: Paddleboard in 50 different bodies of water (a multi-year project for sure!). ❤

Ali You may not realize it but you have been my inspiration to walk to listen to audiobooks to knit.... I needed to get back on track THANK YOU ❤

Lest you doubt your influence, Ali, I just returned from a trip to North and South Dakota where we saw many magpies, which we don’t have at home. Every time I saw one I greeted him with, “Hello, Mr Magpie, how’s your lady wife?” Then “two for joy” when we saw the second. My husband was mystified since it’s new to us. Always a fun thing to surprise your spouse of 37 years!

It still feels like Vlogtober when you just record and post as you feel inspired! Much less pressure than having to film (oh my.. I'm leaving that even though it makes me sound old.. FILM!), edit, and post every day! ☺

I love magpies too! I have a flock of them that come in every evening for a treat. One of them eats from my hand too. They are gorgeous & when they come they warble so I know they are there. They are amazing birds. When they are nesting they never swoop me, however if any other person visits me, they get swooped & also other dogs do as well, but my dog does not. Cheers 🥰💕❤️😍😊😘

Your list for your 50th birthday is growing so much that it could easily stretch all the way to your 100th! :)) Great ideas. As for books from other countries, I highly recommend my favorite Polish female authors. One is from my teenage years—Joanna Chmielewska, who wrote crime novels with a heavy dose of humor. The other is someone I’m reading with fascination right now—Katarzyna Berenika Miszczuk; her book series feature contemporary Polish characters but are rooted in Slavic beliefs. I’m not listing specific titles because I don’t know which ones have been translated into English, but I think you’ll really enjoy the writing style of both authors, regardless of the specific book.

Some really great ideas for your midlife list. I might steal a couple ❤

Canadian authors, I can't pick just one, so.... Lucy Maud Montgomery, Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Alice Munro, Joseph Boydon, Rohinton Mistry, Eden Robinson. Boydon and Robinson are both Indigenous authors. Your 50 list sounds like an excellent idea and a lot of fun.

Just a couple of ideas for your midlife list. Visit the Shakespeare North, in Prescot near Liverpool. The plays are all Shakespeare (obviously) with original script and a twist. This would be good for Lilia too
Watch a sunrise and sunset on the same day, with intention.

Re the dawn chorus, I recommend looking for a 'dawn chorus event', maybe at a local nature reserve if you can. We did one years ago. Had to get up at about 2.30am to get there for 3am, (to be there before it gets going) but it came with a guide who told us what we were hearing and afterwards, they fed us breakfast. Then we went home, arriving back at about 6.30/7am to an extremely confused cat. I said I was going back to bed, which my OH scoffed at. Next thing I know, he's fast asleep! I was too soon after that. Got up again about 11! It was fun and I'm never doing it again.

🇨🇦 authors Margaret Atwood or Carol Shields.
I rode a horse on a beach in Jamaica during our honeymoon plus they took us for a swim. Horses are great swimmers once they've been trained to do it.
I rode a bull in Cuba. Not gonna lie , he was very old and slow but still I was the first in our group to volunteer for it.
For a very long hike, I would recommend the Trans Canada Trail. 😮

Love the 2 magpies tattoo idea - that is the design I would go for (if I can summon up the courage, maybe it's an 'Ali/Aly' thing 😄) I'm very late to the party but what about travelling the North Coast 500 around northern Scotland. Hire a camper van! And stay overnight in a lighthouse - there are a few around the Scottish coastline!!! Getting carried away now but believe me I have looked into both options many times. Just waiting for the Husband to retire 😆

I love your 50 list, it is an inspiration ❤especially the 50 books from 50 countries goal. Have to check my bookshelf and try the same (will be 60 for me!). Book suggestion for you from a Norwegian author: The Sixteen Trees of the Somme by Lars Mytting (author), Paul Russell Garrett (translator). It combines wood, Norway, Shetland and France in what is described as an epic family saga.

I did the Yorkshire 3 peaks in May! On a whim. No training, hadn’t walked more than 3 miles in one go in years! I do gym, but mostly weights, less cardio. You can easily do it, I think it’s more mind over matter!
