After living with a rather purple, Victorian-inspired parlour for some time, Mum and I decided that our living room was in desperate need of a little overhaul.
So, we took it upon ourselves to transform the space from top to bottom — and what began as a simple autumn refresh quickly became a full-blown period-inspired makeover.
With a little old-fashioned DIY, some specially mixed paint, a whole lot of wallpaper stripping and a beautiful discounted William Morris wallpaper as our starting point, we set out to create a room that feels as though it belongs in another time.
Think woodland whimsy, rich colours, traditional details and accessories that may be new, but look as though they've been around for generations. Much of this transformation was also inspired by our recent trip to another place bursting with period charm- Yew Tree Farm in the Lake District📍
The aim wasn't simply to make the room feel autumnal. I wanted to create somewhere I could retreat to whenever I fancy shutting out the outside world, lighting a lamp, curling up on the sofa and getting wonderfully cosy — whether it's October or not.
Along the way, Mum and I tackle the less glamorous realities of decorating: moving furniture, stripping wallpaper, painting, putting everything back together and inevitably questioning whether we've bitten off more than we can chew!
I'll also be giving you a full breakdown of exactly how much the entire transformation cost, because beautiful rooms don't necessarily have to come with a beautiful price tag.
And, as if the decorating wasn't enough, by the end of filming I appear to have developed a little autumnal cold… so please enjoy listening to my voice slowly deteriorate throughout the final stages of this makeover. 😂
Welcome to my new woodland parlour. 🍂🌿
Thank you for coming along for another little journey into making the ordinary feel beautiful.
