Thanks for the tips - I think the wincons you laid out are "flashy" enough for me to enjoy, "backbreaking permanents" has a nice ring to it - really I just wanted to avoid approaching that last scenario you laid out - I've locked up the game but it's going to be another 20 turns to actually finish it, while black mage's rod does 1 damage at at time or whatever the fuck.

Oh yeah, when you said "these have been roughly ordered in how much fun I have in achieving all of them" did you mean Portal/Rise of the dark realms as the most fun, or the least (and mill the most fun)?

A decent bracket 2-3 win con for Y'shtola is Jin-Gitaxias, but not the one in the video. The one that flips into a saga works well in the deck because for the same condition that triggers Y'shtola's ability, it draws you a card, and if you have enough cards in hand which shouldn't be difficult, you can flip it into a three step saga that on flip doubles your cards in hand, next turn bounces the board, and then on step three you can cast as many cards from you hand as you want for free, so you can recast all of your value creatures and then every noncreature spell in your hand to drain the table

I would say my Clone-your-decks-win-condition is a skill based deck.

Papalymo Totolymo! I call them Tiny 'Tola. WB for a 1/2 with "Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, Papalymo Totolymo deals 1 damage to each opponent and you gain 1 life." They have a 4 mana ability to make your opponents sac their highest mana value creature too. Card's nuts in the 99

I have an Y'shtola list, I built it to be all in on the clone plan and the more I played it the more I realized that 1 clone is enough to end games. 4 damage per noncreature spell that "costs" 3 mana kills a table extremely fast. so fast that I ended up cutting all my other bombs because I found them unnecessary

man, as a ffxiv player first and a magic player second, I love'd yshtolas precon but god I wish the main characters, the scions, worked better in the same deck... But they all have such different themes all going in very different directions

“Scaling with skill” is for legacy storm (from 10 years ago or so). A few other combo decks.

Obviously, Every deck scales with skill, but the coefficients on that scaling varies.

Imagine Bruvac AND The Water Crystal matched up with someone else playing mill. You mill two, they mill ten.

When I built this girl, I used all the non-creature clone spells that broke legend rule, and then just had a bunch of instants, and made sure to get Shadow of the Second Sun. Really, that's strong in and of itself.

You are so right about getting good a commander, yes if you play your deck more and understand better your win conditions you can win more often but that is nothing compared with the political and social aspects of commander. I play in a Local Game Store a league of budget commander and I start to win and top the tournament after I learned how to make my opponents focus other players instead of me, bluffing the interaction I hold and pointing out that I need to remain alive to deal with another player that is about to win while downplaying how close I'm to actually win myself, while holding my interaction to secure that win.

I fully agree about the dump pile but there is exception. If you are not storing 20 years of card printing in mind you can make 150 dumpster just to skip yourself doing repetetive query every time you want to check phrasing. Mouseover is just that fast.

Then what you want to do is to take a card from this dump and hide the pile away from your eyes and just judge card on its merit. When you are done drop it down to fish bowl and pick next. You never stare in the dump or you will develop hoarder's disease.
