This is like when I play the computer set to "beginner" so that after my inevitable blunder, I can soldier on, knowing that I will inevitably be saved by an even worse blunder by the computer.

Taking your opponents out of their comfort zone while being perfectly happy playing outside of standard openings and gambits is a legitimate strategy.

Magnus doesn't disregard opening principles; he exemplifies them brilliantly after the second move of all of these games

This opening isn't Magnus's innovation. This opening first came to attention from Viih Sou's games. It's actually a very tricky opening that ends up having a surprisingly high win rate in the hands of masters. The idea is that the rook is less valuable than the bishop in the middle game, and by exchanging it for the rook you now have stronger short term attacking ideas.

Trolls like Magnus and Hikaru are good to popularize chess after this game was taken by the machines.

POV: GMs don't see the evaluation but they can feel it...

Magnus is bored, so he is finding ways to make the game interesting.

Sir you're a stand up comedian 😅for Chess

You should also specify time constraints, as this really affects performance under time pressure, especially against Magnus

I’m starting to really appreciate Magnus. It seemed like his plan was to bait black into weakening his kingside and also castling that way, by using a piece (queenside rook) that Magnus had zero need for in his early game attack plan. To black’s credit, Magnus’ attack plan did not go exactly as he planned due to his excellent play. Great great game!!

Simultaneously a legendary and an absolutely atrocious game of chess I love it

When playing chess with someone who knows how to play chess, just play a different game that kind of looks like chess. Doing something someone isn't use to in a game they know very will is just a damn good idea.

The narration improves day by day. 👍

Best chess analysis so far.

I think Magnus just can't stop himself experimenting with new or unusual positions from which to extricate himself. Which he usually does...

I have no doubts that Magnus went immediately to ludicrous speed

Great vid 👍, after watching ur channel for several months now , I have come to the conclusion that Magnus in these speed games creates chaos and thrives in it , he backs himself to make less mistakes than his opponents, he is crazy good 👍

all legal move are part of the game. This even makes it more enjoyable to see a situation which is not mainstream. Great video and great Carlsen, just impressed what he is able to - this is art.
