Technically, in How I Met Your Father, a sort of Spin-off from a few years ago, Barney shows up in a cameo to say that his daughter is the best thing that happened to him and his relationship with his dad was fixed, so I feel like that's a good ending at least.
I did love that how they turned that line from a deliberately over-the-top cheesy pick-up line to a beautiful vow that we all hope that he'll truly hold to and keep.
I disbelieve there was a villian in the show, and it comes down to the final episode that makes them the villain.
Teds final scene where he takes the horn and goes and confesses his feeling for robin after all this time makes him the villain. The show is called how I met your mother and instead we get 9 scenes of I was to chicken shit to tell this girl I cared.
There was a much better version that was filmed and would have been a much more suitable ending where ted and robin see each other again and he tells her in so many words that he loved his time with her (Robin) but loved his wife, and they go there separate ways.
Oh yeah, and he ensures that the suit guy gets busted for all the illegal stuff they were paying Barney to take the fall for, by working with the feds. Legend-Dary!
He wasn't trying to get that woman to sleep with him when he said "you are the love of my life" etc. He was making the case to his friends that if he couldn't make it work with Robin he never will feel that way. He'll always be a player, he's arguing.
Will the important thing to remember about Barney is that Ted is telling his children the story of how he met, and subsequently lost their mother, well at the same time creating a case for why he and aunt Robin should be in love with each other. He is an unreliable narrator, telling and retelling the story to his and Tracy's children in such a way as to defend his right to be with Robin, while essentially fridging their mother. What is the perfect way to tell his family that he and Robin are meant to be together? Buy undermining her legend......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................dary ex-boyfriend and reducing him to a guy who only pretended to be a player and a successful businessman who slept around, but was really just a peaceful, generous Everyman, who wanted to find the perfect girl to love him. For All We Know Barney could have always just been that confirmed Bachelor, but he just pretended that he was a heartbroken liar with nothing awesome about him. Nothing to really love. Therefore not deserving of Robin like Ted is. I would not be surprised if literally 3 minutes after Ted finally goes upstairs to Robyn to confess his Undying Love for her, Barney is there, and they never got divorced at all. The only pretended they did.
They don't hate each other, she still avoides the group for years and when Lily ask she explains the reason and in it is the one that stings that her exhusbad is there part of the main group yeah later she's not so upset but it takes time they may not hate each other but Watching one another doing all of the things hurts so it's hard on them both.
While I agree the writers could have done something better than what they did everyone knows it and the show does trick you just with Ted and Robin at the expense of Barney's love for her and while I do love that he gets what he was looking for through the whole series which BTW is a family that is his own.. they didn't have to do it the way they did it all stems from the end game being Robin and Ted it's why the mother ends where she ends and Barney and Robin end where they end. So yes they did trick us I think Barney's ending is almost perfect except we don't know if he gets the full family deal. We only know he's got what he wanted a kid of his own. The ending as a whole for the show isn't that great. Three of the 5 characters leave the show on better notes while two end the same way they started doing the same bit again Ted and Robin are the worst.
