A Crapload is ~$100,000 Now if you're curious., Marshall' Suit (at $4,000) is what Barney calls the 1/3rd Price., meaning typically he spends $12,000 / Suit... of course it should be noted there is no way to figure out how many Suits Barney actually buys per year. Sure... we can count up all of the suits in the Wedding Scene then add the number he Donated and divide that by the Year it is minus 1998. (Oh, I'm not going to do the maths on that... but I guarantee someone has those figures)
Still, that doesn't really matter... he specifically is cited as spending ~1 Crapload on Suits a Year; and IF we know that each Suit is $12,000; then we can basically assume he buys a Suit per Month; then this ends up meaning he spends ~$144,000 / Year on Suits. Now I know that I said a Crapload is ~$100,000, and this is like a Crapload and a Half; but that isn't how Barney thinks about money... be it $100,000 or $190,000 it'd still be about a "Crapload" to him. Even still also remember this is coming from Ted... these numbers aren't going to be perfectly accurate. He's just going to be shocked at how insanely big they are.
This is why I land on a Crapload being $100,000. As such this means in 1998, Barney is offered $1.6million as his entry level salary., but then we have to keep in mind the Show starts in 2005 and goes for 9 Seasons (2014); as such we're talking about 16 Years of raises. Meaning assuming he never negotiates higher (which Barney wouldn't, because it's part of that "Be Invisible but Important" aspect of his Job) ... this means it would rise with inflation.
As such Barney at the end of the show would be on, $2.34million ... except as noted, in 2010 he does off-the-cusp explain how he essentially doubled his salary by firing half his staff. Meaning., in 2010 his Salary rises from $2.14m to $4.28m., then continues to inflate to an insane $4.5m when he ultimately pulls the trigger on the Feds involvement resulting in the company going into administration.
Now this is the most insanely wild aspect... while Barney might not exactly be thrifty when it comes to spending his money, outside of his Apartment ... which is a PURCHASED (not Rented) place., he never actually has big expenditures. Sure, you could say, "Wait... isn't $100,000 per year on Suits a BIG spend?" sure., but he doesn't Drive, he doesn't have Kids, he doesn't have Pets, he doesn't have Game Consoles, etc. It's not that big comparatively speaking given what he earns.
Clearly what he primarily spends his money on is his Apartment that he owns and has heavily modified. Which is a sound investment because ultimately when he sells it on, it'll be worth Millions potentially tens of Millions on its own depending on the Location and we know it's essentially a Penthouse, meaning yeah INSANELY expensive.
Still, consider for a moment given his potential expenses just how much he has saved up. When he pulls the trigger on the Federal Intervention; he has been earning millions for a decade and a half., with about $1.5 - 2.0m on Suits and let's say $8m invested in his Apartment; while having earned ~$40 - 50million Gross... probably ~$22 - 26million Net (i.e. After Taxes) That's still more than enough to never work again and be comfortable for the rest of his life on the interest alone; and who knows how he actually stores it.
25:56 also about the bit where the word "about" describes the suit range, it being probably a range between 5 -25% above or below as said would it be the 4000 or 12 000 in this case
