Barney Stinson's 17 smartest schemes on How I Met Your Mother, ranked — with the episode for each one.
Barney Stinson is the character played by Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your Mother, which aired on CBS from 2005 to 2014. Barney is usually described as the comic relief of the group. This video argues the opposite: Barney is the only character on the show running multi-year operations, and it ranks the seventeen best examples using the episodes as evidence.
What is Barney's Playbook in How I Met Your Mother?
The Playbook is a leather-bound book containing every con and fake identity Barney has used on women in New York. It is introduced in "The Playbook" (Season 5, Episode 8). Barney burns the real Playbook in "The Final Page" (Season 8, Episode 12) as step ten of his proposal to Robin.
What is The Robin play?
The Robin is a fifteen-step play Barney designs as a marriage proposal to Robin Scherbatsky, revealed in Season 8, Episode 12. The steps include dating Robin's most hated coworker Patrice, using hidden cameras in his own apartment and in Marshall and Lily's, publicly burning the Playbook, and telling Ted about a fake engagement so that Ted breaking the secret becomes the signal to proceed. Robin says yes on the rooftop.
What is The Scuba Diver play?
The Scuba Diver is the final page of the Playbook, also in Season 5, Episode 8. Barney deliberately targets Lily's coworker Shelly so that Lily will steal the Playbook, announces a fake last play while wearing a scuba suit, then fakes an emotional breakdown about his breakup with Robin. His friends then personally recommend him to the woman he was targeting.
What does PLEASE stand for on How I Met Your Mother?
PLEASE stands for "Provide Legal Exculpation And Sign Everything." It is revealed as Barney's job in Season 9, Episode 15. Barney took the position inside the company of Greg, the man who took his girlfriend Shannon in 1998, and used it to collude with federal investigators and have Greg's division shut down.
Which episode is the exploding meatball sub?
"The Exploding Meatball Sub" is Season 6, Episode 20. After Marshall points out marinara sauce on his tie, Barney spends months engineering a booby-trapped sandwich, waits ten years, and fakes a terminal illness with $30,000 in real uninsured medical bills to deliver it from a deathbed.
Why does Barney think Bob Barker is his father?
Barney's mother Loretta tells him as a child that Bob Barker is his father while The Price Is Right is on television. In Season 2, Episode 20, Barney competes on the show, bids $18,421 on the Showcase and gets it exact, wins both showcases — and then never tells Bob Barker who he is.
What is the fake family Barney creates for his mother?
In Season 4, Episode 15, Barney reveals a seven-year staged family: an actress named Margaret playing his wife Betty, and a child actor cast by audition playing his son Tyler. Family dinners run from written scripts with page numbers.
Nine seasons of schemes went into this list. Tell me which play I skipped.

he mentions things she did that would make her seem more crazy, yet he moves along the hot axis & vice versa. the line he draws doesn't describe her timeline of hotness or craziness.
the show just followed his hand with the drawing and it doesn't match the story.
