Blue Sky's Ice Age franchise! It's been through a lot. And with it only being revived again for Ice Age 6, I thought I'd be worth looking at the worst official Ice Age Movie they made... Ice Age 5. With all the biggest red flags on show - a bloated ensemble, a stupid prompt, terrible plotlines, awkward dialogue and even more bloated ensemble, let's see the trudges of running out of ideas for a franchise that ultimately became the nail in the head for the studio. This is the last Ice Age Movie, this is The Most TERRIBLE Ice Age Movie...

We don't talk about Blue Sky Studios enough. But since it's over, here's a Video Essay on just what mistake caused their downfall... https://youtu.be/9HQByLjmFCQ

Do you remember how in the first movie the friendship of animals of different species was considered something extraordinary?..

@vonnstevens2502 1 year ago

You gotta love how Scrat throughout the entire franchise has been causing disasters which sets up the plots of the movies

Ice Age is weird to me because you don’t hear it discussed often yet it’s gotten more sequels and spin-offs than most Disney/Pixar properties.

The fact the first movie's plot gets completely forgotten about by these sequels kinda pisses me off. They should've reincorporated that into the movies more, like with Manny remembering his old family and being protective of Peaches because of that, like you brought up.

No, Manny was not the baby mammoth in the cave drawing/flashback… it’s made clear that the hunters are throwing a rock on the female and offspring while the male fights off the hunters trying to kill him. Manny was a father with a life mate, and he lost his family, and that was the tragedy that was playing out to tell his backstory. Manny started the first movie traveling against mass migration so he could die alone after having lost everything. That’s how different the tone of the first movie was.

Scrat is basically a creator deity at this point.

Also Buck just has new rivals in the flying raptors and Rudy is never even mentioned?

@JodiGeo 1 year ago

Surprised they never made a spin-off called "Stone Age" or something

Ice Age is such a weird franchise. The first movie is genuinely fantastic, the second is weird but solid, the third isn't anything special but at least it's fun... And the fourth and fifth, um, exist?

Man Diego's girlfriend played absolutely no role in this movie, hell I don't even know her name

@abbsm.9661 1 year ago

it’s that super overused trope that main characters daughter isn’t his little girl anymore and she wants to spread her wings and main character needs to learn to let go. same thing will happen in shrek 5

@teacoon6399 1 year ago

I think the painting more implies that he was the mammoth watching his family get slaughtered lol

It is fucked up that his old family didn't come up ONCE

Remember when the animals were just animals? They humanized them so much, it's clear they lost the plot after the first movie. I hated all the zany nonsense.

You know it gets bad when each movie introduces a love interest

@Mariocat99 1 year ago

After the last short of Scrat getting the acorn. Should've been a sign to officially end the series. But Disney said no.

@simbeau2012 1 year ago

Manny lost his wife and child in that cave scene. He did mention them in the second movie when Diego asks him ‘ what’s holding you back?’ And Manny responds with ‘ my family’.

I fully agree with your video, the fifth movie could have been good but the script was just so weird and aimed way too much towards little kids

2016?!?!? I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS MOVIE CAME OUT IN 2016.

@cinderstargomeow 1 year ago

Hot take, I really like the pirates in Ice Age 4. At least the granny had a reason to be there. At least the villain is an actual threat the entire movie. At least the ‘love interest ‘ had a personality. This movie is just sad. It should have ended at 4

@artfidget234 1 year ago

Was confused why they made Lewis the hedgehog thing being such a good friend/kinda love interest for Peaches and a whole plot of liking someone for personality vs just physical attraction in the 4th.. just to have this random Julian dude with no real intro and he's already engaged? Was weird.. Lewis nowhere to be seen even as a friend figure

How they went from Saving the Baby to global warming to dinosaurs to Pirates and to Asteroids,

So yeah, after Blue Sky Studio shut down, Disney decided to bring back Ice Age with a 6th Movie. It's now a zombie franchise for sure
