We have 12 Lambert Morgan’s. The old classic type. Easy keepers, family friendly, and gentle to work with. We are in GA

I like the old type.

Got a liver chestnut morgan gelding from a rescue in Lancaster Co. PA. Owner stopped in to offer him up prior to New Holland Auction. Eric just couldn't do the twenty mile round trips each Sunday after being stalled all week.
My daughter took one look and that was it. We were told ERIC THE RED, was around 17 ish. He was older. None the less ,watching him discover free ranging, no more buggy trips just carrying a hundred weight girl and generally being allowed to be a horse was one of life's most gratifying experiences.
His curiosity ,bomb proof reliabilty under saddle and general demeanor of a Golden Retriever made him one of my most memorable horses.
He went on to carry both a elderly woman and teenager on shorter endurance rides for quite a while.
His personality was his saving grace. He didn't have papers but he was definitely old style Vermont Lippit line, no saddlebred.
Saw many similar looking buggy horses on the road in that AMISH county.
His liver chestnut coat and facial markings ran consistent.
Always wondered who the sire was that threw so many similar offspring.
He never was lame. pulled his shoes and he had fabulous feet. Only one iffy hock. After over a decade and half of limited turnout and once or twice a week long road trips, I find this remarkable.
Vet said he was well into his twenties and he acted like a teenager and had a second career in which he thrived.

I've still got a morgan mare.  She was born in 1999.  Her mom was the show type and her mind was not desireable.  Her dad was the old type with a solid mind.  My old mare is spittin' image of her dad.  I wish I had a clone of her.  She used to carry me any place I asked her.  Many times she would look at me and say, "Are you serious?  OK, hang on."  She is a better horse than I am a rider.  ❤❤❤

I have 8 full Lippitts here in Connecticut!

My first horse was a Devan/Government filly, she was the epitome of a Morgan, I trained her myself (high school kid), using a book, and rode bareback because I couldn’t afford a saddle. She would do anything I asked! I just had to think it to turn/stop dead, etc. she had great feet, and endurance and was very smart. The old type Morgan is my favorite breed.

My 1st horse was a morgan gelding, old typr, barely 14.2, but solid as a rock with a sane mind, and would do anything- we did competitive trail rides, parades, all the things kids want to do, plus swimming, messing around doing things we probably shouldn't have, but he was up for anything- he was fantastic!!!!!

I had an old timey Morgan in the 90s. My children showed her in 4H and there was always someone who saw her and wanted to talk about the Morgan.

I own an old type Morgan. He’s  a Whippoorwill Morgan from Old Lyme, CT, bred by Mary Jean Vasiloff.  He’s a chestnut gelding, 18yo this year and worth his weight in gold. ❤

My 1st Morgan was a Lippitt. I currently have one of each style of Morgan. The showring style was an older mare and was given to me to keep my old type Mare company, since they were companion horses.  I treasure the old style Morgan deeply.

Justin  Morgan had a horse.
At 14 here in Massachusetts, I bought my first horse a Morgan.
What a lady she was.
Thank you for telling this story.

My mama's horse was a Morgan. She got her for her birthday when she was 7 in 1935. "Lady" was mom's mode of transportation, filled in behind the plow for my G-pa if one of his two plow horses needed a break, and pulled my G-.ma's cart. She was accidentally bred by G-pa's draft stud. Delivered a huge colt and survived the birthing. They had to pull the colt with a chain.

The pictures of Lady show classic Morgan traits. She was coal black, short, and built like a brick house. She was bit by rattlesnakes twice and literally kicked the head off a coyote. There is a picture of that so I know it's true. Mom, who was a horsewoman, always said that Lady was the finest horse she ever rode. Not the smoothest LOL, but the finest.

My mother had an old style Morgan. He was a handful. I started riding him when I was young. I wasn’t afraid of him. He was the old style. He was 14.2, black, ball of fire. I worked cows on him, turn him into a gymkhana horse, and we went through some terrifying trails. I could trust him completely.

I loved my Morgan; Monty was a beautiful bay gelding solid as a rock. He was built for work but was used as my trail horse and companion. He was smart and confident, and my best friend all the time. He wanted to be near me whether we were riding or swimming or I was working in the barn or around the pastures. I loved his versatility and fun-loving spirit. For my preference I will go with a Morgan all day long. My friend had his Morgan gelding Toby and they did endurance rides, quite the horse.

watching this brought back  childhood memories  :  favorite  book  "Justin Morgan had a horse "   and a morgan at my instructor's barn  .... thank you

wish i had an old stock morgan

My grandparents had a Morgan horse when I was a kid. This is over 50 years ago. He was a dark liver chestnut with an almost blonde mane and tail. He was gorgeous. Short, stocky and temperamental!

My first horse 40 years ago was a 14.2h Morgan.  He was amazing!  Stout, sure footed,  could go forever on trail rides and was such a kind gelding, perfect for a teenager.

It’s sad to see such a changes to what was a beautiful and hardy breed.

14 hands and 900.pounds is a good sturdy build. This was the build of the ancestor of all Morgan horses. The horse named Figure was
pony sized , even if he was not a pony by breed.
I worked for some years in a boarding stable with 50 plus horses and ponies. They were there for Fox Hunting, teaching, trail riding, and Hunter Jumper shows. Those workers who knew how to recognize breeds within cross - breeds recognized Morgan in about half of these horses. These were horses with good sturdy legs, fewer veterinarian visits, and excellent personalities.
Morgan stallion with a mare of a taller breed had resulted in some good strong horses for adult riders.
Full, nicely bred Morgans might be rare, but the breed is out there in cross- breds.  Cross- bred with Morgan in the line is very often a reliable, versatile horse.
