Best two hours of history I've spent in years!!!! I finally understand the protestant reformation!

I study the Protestant Reformation and its outcome because I enjoy history.  History explains many reasons why certain things happen.  Thank you for presenting- enjoyed it.

Magnificent!  Absolutely magnificient presentation of the details that led to the Protestand Reformation.  As a former Southern Baptist now converted to Roman Catholicism, and a history major at university, I have never seen anyone do such a truly brilliant job of explaining the details of how and why the change occured.  As a Catholic, I now say, "the best thing that ever happened to the Catholic Church was the Protestant Reformation."  That is how corrupt had become the church in Rome.  She discusses indulgences, vicarious or substitutionary 'at one ment' based on faith alone that was Luther's mantra, and many other fascinating details of this period of European history.

This beautiful lady, with an obviously beautiful and virtuous spirit deserves many thanks from those who benefit from her lecture.  Had I had more teachers like her I may have ended up teaching History as opposed to going into health care.

A psychiatrist from Michigan in the 1950s wrote an interesting book called the Three Christs of Ypsilanti about a group therapy session in a mental hospital in which three of his clients claimed to be Jesus. The history of contemporary rival popes always gives me the giggles.

It is of interest to note that it has been estimated that five percent of the population in Germanic Europe were literate at Martin Luther's time. Pamphlet reading was restricted to a very limited audience. Word of mouth was a much more significant force.

There were other churches in addition to Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox, such as the non-Chalcedonian or Oriental Orthodox, including the Coptics amd Ethiopians, which split much earlier than the Eastern Orthodox, such as the Greek and Russian Orthodox.
