Micro managers can never understand why the people under them hate working under them

"No booze, unless we're drinking it" is an absolutely wild company policy. Reminds me of CEOs who have a bed in their office so they can nap during the day but will instantly fire anybody who falls asleep at their desk.

6:23 "You are overqualified for this position. So we're going to second guess everything you do." Sounds like retail. 😅

Dude, similar story here. I played bass for Filter from 2010 to 2013. At the end, I told the band that I was leaving at the end of the month long tour we had just started. The entire time, they kept asking me to reconsider. Everyone from the singer, to the TM, on down to the merch person all took turns trying to convince me to stay. So, I tied up all my loose ends at home, and agreed to do the next 2 week run that was slated to start about a week after we finished the month. I even got my replacement (that I picked) up to speed with the songs.
Anyway, we're home on our break, and my rep from my amp company calls me in a panic, saying that my singer called him directly to get a duplicate rig shipped to the venue of the first show for the next run.
Turns out that they wanted to say they fired me instead of me quitting.
Anybody that followed the band at that time knew the real story, because I wasn't quiet about the fact that I was leaving. Their narrative sorta backfired on them, as their own fans called them out on their socials.
Check out the documentary "HIRED GUN". I'm featured in it discussing how it was towards the end of my tenure.

I remember seeing trivium and chillin with Matt’s guitar tech and how he had to quit the tour because his dad was dying and Matt wouldn’t let him go home, basically he would be fired if he went to see his dad before he died. He was super stressed. Never cared for trivium since.

I feel like "Tank's Tales" is a good name for this series

I quit a tour after one show once. But i guess that's pretty common for the audience.

I will respect the tour manager after they show me how cables are wrapped.

I’ve got no idea why YouTube algorithm recommended this video to me, but I’ve stuck around till the end. Enjoyed the story telling. I’m going to watch the other video you mentioned.

I’ve had a horrible experience working for a Christian worship leader. This lady didn’t know anything about music (she came from the theater world)! I got really tired of being talked to like I was stupid. Just had to bow out . Solid proof that toxic people come in all shapes and sizes!

I'll add "Never hire a babysitter as a tour manager" to my notes.

People don't quit their jobs, they quit their managers/bosses.

Wow the guy who told you to tour with the other band is a great guy. Insanely nice from him

Worked in power industry. It was absolutely forbidden to have a second job or a part-time other job so you know what I did. I started my own company. No one’s gonna tell me what to do on my time off.

After seeing Leanne Rimes some years ago, I was blown away by her two guitar players. It turns out they were both basically Sunday church guitarists based in Nashville. One of the best live concerts I have ever seen mixed so well.

I worked for over 35 years in the industry and can vouch for the word-of-mouth hiring system.  I never had a resume, never filled out job applications, etc.  Yet I worked steadily and prospered.  Here's the 3 rules for success being a stagehand/roadie: 1. Show up on time.  2. Show up sober.  3. Ask what you can do.

I was a hired guitar player for a regional cover act… band was managed/ founded by the bass player. After 4 high “paying” shows… he tells us we didn’t get paid last month so he couldn’t pay us our fees. Meanwhile he kept every penny and just got new band mates… after doing this 3-4x word got around and sunk his ship

My ears perked up when you said "Pat Benatar"...I did a tour with her and Neil in 2005 as an opening act (drummer) just absolutely phenomenal people to be around. Band and crew.

Nothing more frustrating than being lied about and not being able to convince anyone you are telling the truth. I’m going through that now

20:00 she said you brought an entire six pack. That was hilarious to me. A whole entire six pack lol. Like that is somehow a lot of beer on a 12 hour trip. Lmao.
