The method he used to make this photo is genius, because the projection allowed him to "be in the room" since the room was projected onto his body. Absolutely genius.

This is a much cooler story than just "someone used photoshop to make a creepypasta. Thank you for bringing this story to light, and thank Richard for his artistry.

I love how this turns from a story about a creepy photo to a story about a guy who fuckin rules

@Ro321chile 1 year ago

The true horror of the video was the Something Awful webpage constantly asking for money

@stray_cat2003 1 year ago

I find it poetic, how the alleged ghost is actually Richard from the future, revisiting the ghost of his own childhood.

@joearnold6881 1 year ago

The scariest story is the disappearance of that poor thirty dollars

@deadbeef33 1 year ago

The image becomes so much spookier with the knowledge that the "falling body" is just the little boy grown up.

Ive been a photographer for 60 years now... I was certain of two things. It wasn't a digital composite and that whatever process was used, it was far simpler than most anyone imagined. Of course nobody suspected the artist had the original slide.

Excellent video. I'm glad to hear Ramsdell is finally getting due credit for his work. I will help spread his website around.

Thank you so much for taking my silly video idea and turning it into such a beautiful tribute to an artist that really deserves it! Hope a lot of people get to see Richard's work. All of it

I think the fact that Richard is not just in the photo... but in the photo twice and nobody had a clue until now is kind of awesome.

Imagine the absolute jumpscare I felt when not only learning this was created by a professor from my school, but someone I recognized. Though I was in a different department, so I never had a class with him, I remember seeing Richard around campus back when I was a student. This was yet another incredible video Jeff, thank you for your (and Valdevia's) work highlighting and investigating this incredible piece.

It’s so interesting. The “moral” of all these stories is that almost all names get lost to time, but rarely the work. And the names can later be rediscovered with just a little bit of luck.

In case you guys don't want to waste your time and want to get to the point of the video it starts at 0:00, no need to thank me

I actually love the original context of the image series. It's a well communicated and executed idea that interestingly doesn't even really clash with the urban legends: The dangers in our living rooms we aren't even aware off until we look back...

@PADARM 1 year ago

The actual concept behind the artwork is absolutely brilliant and even more terrifying than the ghost story. In an innocuous birthday party, people are oblivious to the horrible things that are happening in the world or that politicians are plotting for the future. Bravo Mr Ramsdell

I love Richard’s part in this. This felt like a reunion of an estranged childhood friend, where both of you have grown up separately, but you’re still made from the same place. I wonder how many artists have art that has had a life of its own! That’s got to be rare

@fincherly 1 year ago

Please tell Richard he’s absolutely adored by a lot of people now, myself included

If I may say on behalf of the general public:

I got goosebumps hearing Mr Ramsdell’s explanation of/inspiration behind the series that spawned its most famous image. That’s artistically potent, and a premise that’s depressingly more relevant than ever.

I haven’t read through the comments and I’m 44 of 62 minutes through the video, but I paused to add my voice to public outcry the artist claims would necessitate the re-release of the other images in the set.

I’m inclined to believe the art Ramsdell made is art We the People need (even if he’s right to believe it’s art we don’t deserve)
