One diamond for a tear.💔💧

I grew up with their music.

This is about lead singer's father who passed away.❤

Beautiful song, written when he lost his father.

Love everything by Bread ❤

Such a touching song!  David Gates wrote this song in memory of his father who died in 1963 & never saw the success he achieved with Bread. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man",  "Sweet Surrender", "Aubrey" etc. In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".

Of course this song is not new to me but I grew up thinking this was about a romance. I just found out at almost 70 years old this was about his father. My friend told me this last year because he lost his father when he was 9 and he still got choked up talking about this song. Thats what real music can do. A song more than 50 years ago still evoked that reaction from my friend who is also almost 70.

I lost my Dad in October and it is still hard to hear this one.

Tears. Every single time.

There's not one note of this song or it's message that I don't love! Love me some Bread!!❤❤❤

I bought this as a single record as soon as I heard it on the radio! Beautiful

His father died while he was on tour out on the road.  The love and respect for his father and the fact he was not with him is heartbreaking.
His voice is outstanding and his writing skills are amazing. Absolutely beautiful and touching.

This song gets me emotional even after all these decades

As the only girl and youngest of four older brothers and a daddy's girl, I literally lost my mind when my dad died 😢

My mom has been gone for twenty years, and I  am almost the age she was when she died. I would live to just see her once more!

Born in the 60s and my older sister always had this on.

His voice is so raw so cure so soft and as he’s making his point all of a sudden, the chorus hits hard as if emphasize it. It’s just a magical song it really is.

Bread was one of the best bands ever, whoever wrote their songs was a genius.

Make it with you was another great song by them, in 1970 and that did get to no.1

That bridge is one of the most honest I can think of in a song.   "IF" is another love song that gets my 4 stars - another fantastic Bread song.

A diamond 💎 for the harmonies, the 🎶 music itself pulls you in at the beginning.
