I am 67 and the older I get the more I appreciate music from all of the amazing artists that I grew up listening to.Bread is certainly one of them and they helped to create the soundtrack of my life.

This song was Bread's very first Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song did debut on the very first show of American Top 40 with Casey Kasem on the week of July 4, 1970. Eventually the song go all the way to hit #1 and stayed there for 4 weeks. Their biggest hit ever!!!

The smiles when the "make it with you" line comes up.

Bread was the "go to" band for slow dancing back then.

I'm an old man...age 62. Thank you for taking me back to my Kindergarten days (age 5-6 in the U.S.) My elder siblings were at least 10 years older and I grew up listening to their radio stations and records and I'm thankful I did!

I don't think he's singing about making 'it'. Rather making it through life together.
Mother Freedom and Let Your Love Go are the other side of Bread.

The soft rock band Bread got its name in late 1969 when founding members David Gates, Jimmy Griffin, and Robb Royer were brainstorming a name while stuck in traffic. A passing bread truck inspired them to pick the moniker. They liked the name because it started with the letter "B" (like the Beatles and the Bee Gees) and had a universal, ambiguous appeal. It also played on the popular 1960s slang for money. Love your channel!

My high school years. This song played all the time during lunchtime in the Student Center. Pleasant memories. Thanks for the play.

Until now, the lyrics used to go in one ear and out the other. When i think about old friends who listened with me from those days and have passed, I really appreciate those lyrics now.

Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "If", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender", "Aubrey" etc. In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".
