I'm glad this man who looks like a stunning Irish woman is tackling this topic. Can't imagine a better host for this rant. Seated.

All these "new" aesthetics are purely surface level... people try to join into these communities not because they legitimately agree with the views and lifestyle, but because they want to be liked for being seen as different.

Shannon Blake lyrics are all "my name is Shannon Blake / and i'm here to say / i'm the Shannonest Shannon / in the USA"

If you are BUYING Hippie clothes you have already lost.

its so over (I havent watched the video yet)

God I'm so glad I don't have to buy a personality from temu

If you're not going as Randy as Lorde from Southpark for Halloween, you're missing one heck of an opportunity

0:48 um, yeah, that's not what the hippie movement was. The hippie movement was a massive counterculture that advocated simplifying your life, getting back to nature, rejecting capitalism and "the man." It was also inextricably linked with protesting the Vietnam War, which is part of why it's never been really duplicated. (I was raised by an actual OG hippie who never really left the counterculture; she just learned how to blend.) Saying it was "rich kids rebelling against their parents" is almost as laughably wrong as these twits posturing on tiktok.

At this point, Shannon Blake almost seems like she's AI. Actually like AI was asked to make a hippie spiritual rapper or something and that's what they came up with

The hippies never went away, here's my boomer take.

I'm 30; The same "hippie" kids were around when I was in highschool and college.
From my experience, they're normally the most narcissistic people you'll ever meet, who are roleplaying the whole "peace and love" thing to compensate.

I'm biased, as I grew up listening to metal, but I would trust a person in a "Cannibal Corpse" or "Archspire" shirt before I would trust a "hippie".

The thing about "handmade clothing" is that all clothing is handmade lol even shein or Amazon. The difference is how much people are being paid. So "handmade" is a pretty nothing term

Most subcultures and movements were a reaction to their time,
and hippies certainly had more of the privilege of expressing themselves so freely.
Yet, the intention of the people behind a movement remains important,
and I don't think there are any principles or ideals at play here.
Love and peace from Rotterdamn man  ;)

Patch work cloths from Nipal are sold on mass everywhere and have been since atleast 2010. This is nothing special, I see it everywhere

A lot of these people are extremely narcissistic and shallow. They'll say "good vibes only" while telling you how much better than you they are. They'll get on an airplane and fly across the world and then tell you how you're destroying the planet. They'll go at length on how amazing they are for shedding their ego. I don't judge people by how they look or dress though, so it's not specific to a particular style, and there are plenty of good people who wear "hippie clothes."

My dad was and in some ways still is a late blooming hippie. He used to run a shop out of his hometown selling kaleidoscopes and jewelry he made himself as well as drawing up astrology charts for people. He also has a habit of making his own clothes especially hats. Him and my uncle are about the only genuine hippies I've ever met.

Lets just not confuse everyone wearing boho clothes (within reason) with a "hippie" or a dreadheaded white wealthy drug user. Some of us were just stoners in high school but grew up and know better and arent narcissistic culture vultures. Sometimes people just like some of the clothes, again within reason respecting cultures.

11:40 Shannon believes she’s a “star seed” which has some roots in white supremacist ideology. White people from the stars who came to earth to help guide the “less advanced” human civilization in the right direction. Sounds very similar to the “white man brought civilization to Africa” rhetoric used by colonizers during the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

I vibe with the hippie aesthetic because I'm whimsical, I do try my best to make sure that I don't curb stomp on cultures.

Patched my jeans, made my shirts. This is cosplay with a cred card.
