Mike, so glad you mentioned the Canadian rebuilds. That's what I have with the bored out relief.  Mystery solved thanks!

Thanks Mike. Best explanation I've seen yet on the oil system. Wish I could give you 20 thumbs.

I’m glad to hear you say you have all that pressure on your filter and cooler with a 26 mm stock pump. I’ve been asking people that as I’ve been rebuilding my 1600 for my sand rail and nobody has answer but the rail already has the cooler and filter set up. Nobody would give me an answer. That’s good to hear

Thanks Mike, Hi From Australia,
really great info, Thank you, i watch your VW car shows from over there also,
your the only tuber that takes a proper look at all the bugs and bus's, and i thank you for that also,
i have a 63 1300 Beetle over here, money pit, love it,

Thanks I love how you explain during your videos best video on subject

Thanks Mike for sharing good info!

O! Oh! I put high pressure empi pistons and springs on both sides in my old 1600 DP engine. But i'm glad i left the oil pump as stock. It did solve the oil pressure issue. Never seen the low oil warning light since! 😅

Im with you on pump size, 26mm max is all I ever run too. 👍👍👍

Super awesome video! Just did the cb performance relief piston and springs. Unfortunately the new pistons from cb came scuffed. I tried to buff it out as to not change the diameter but I could still feel it with my nail. Decided to run the old pistons since they weren’t too worn. Moral of the story… double check your new parts!

I had a 1600 fitted with AA slip in thick wall 88s. Shop mechanic said i had a tired 40 hp and my oil pump was a dinosaur. I never had oil pressure issues before! He handed me an oil filter adapter some hose and clamps in additin to fitting a 30 mm cb in out pump and said good luck. Nothing but problems! I have not been able to drive my car up any hill without overheating and having an insane amount of internal case pressure. In addition to blown rear main seal, and blown out sand seals despite breather kits increased in size 2x now it still a nightmare. I really want to go back to stock but cant see a downside to running an aux filter. I hate lines going by j tubes and not being an fitted steel braid but im broke! Really hoping the 26 from cb helps me reduce mess created from oil mist vapor pressure issues. Bigger is not better imho. Be wary who you have work on your engines!! Thanks for your videos!!

I think the explanation is a little incorrect in the video regarding the oil control valve. When the oil temperature is cold its viscosity is higher (original monograde anyway), so when the engine is started, the oil pressure will be high. VW added this control valve to prevent the chance of blowing up the rather flimsy oil cooler when the oil is cold. In this case the valve spring is compressed, the valve is down and the majority of the oil will bypass the cooler and go straight to the bearings. When the oil heats up and becomes 'thinner', the pressure in the system reduces and the oil control valve returns to its closed state, sending all of the oil up through the cooler before oiling the main bearings.

I’ve read the Setrab oil cooler is the one to get.

I've dealt with that factory oversized bore/piston thing lol.
I like the CB performanced keyed maxi pumps.

I've been running this 26 for a bit now with  a external oil filter. It works just fine. But on my other car it has a full flow case with an external oil filter.  And that one has an old deno pump thats huge. Both seem to work fine in there applications.

I'm still Available Sundays and Mondays...

from the book 72 and later dual relief case. pressure control spring loaded 26mm 3.8-4.4 lbs , pressure relief spring loaded 39mm 15-19.4 lbs

Hey Mike ! on my old engine I had a Melling cast iron 34 mm dish cam pump ? negative effect it was shearing the 4 rivets ..... I guess it in the winter was hard to turn until it warmed up . positive effect was at 92,000 miles had 40 lbs oil pressure hot at idle . I still considered the engine blew ( it was knocking ) ...

I don't know what it does!

I run stock springs with a high volume Melling iron pump. I run 7+ qts of oil, Derale cooler w/fan, I use the AAZ diesel oil filter (holds 1qt). All my lines are hydraulic with JIC fittings. I do not run a stock cooler! I use 10w/40 full synthetic oil. Freeway driving is 4,000rpm @ 76-77mph. '66 Bus with GRBs 1835 forged bottom end, No issues in 10k mi. Oil temp is usually 210-220 if over 90° outside

So bothe the oil pressure valves look the same in my engine.  Does the one need to have the step?  It looks longer so it might make a difference
