Biggest problem is cars with touch screen dashboards. The amount of cars I see weaving lately

When im riding. I just dont get complacent. I always and i mean always treat every car like im invisible.  It doesn't stop them from doing stupid. But it definitely gives me an extra couple seconds to mitigate..

Saccadic masking?  When the driver is clearly looking right at you & you're sure they've seen you but a quirk of vision means they have not.  The brain doesn't register anything when the eye is moving, which it does a lot when scanning.  You literally disappear.

I'll give you another one that happened here in South Australia a couple of months back (I was trained UK 1975/6 whilst in the military). I'd just joined the Freeway out of Adelaide having passed the old Toll Gate heading towards Murray Bridge and Melbourne (Victoria). Travelling in the centre lane on my 2026 Bonneville T120 Black (fitted with a Oxford 105db Foghorn - Triumphs horns are useless). When I came up on a female in the right hand lane - not on her mobile phone - NO using her knees driving, sun screen down mirror open doing her makeup. As I levelled with her rear door (Toyota Corolla), she suddenly hits her left hand indicator not even seeing me - didn't look. She had in her right hand a lipstick, her left hand a compact open, using her knees to drive to come over into my lane. To her right was a large concrete barrier dividing the Highway/Freeway. I hit the horn, watched her panic, drop both her lipstick, compact and nearly hit the concrete barrier BUT she didn't hit me. The 105db Foghorn did its job and I passed. Later she caught up with me, again doing her lipstick but as she passed me she was shacking a fist at me. I really wish she had've pulled over and threatened me. Being a retired British/Australian Spec Ops Veteran, I think it might have been a little one sided.

Following on from your comments about the Lumen effect, we can make ourselves appear wider, by giving some lateral movement left and right on the approach to a vehicle waiting to pull out. Day or night, that lateral movement will help get you seen

Great advice, I would add that daytime spot lights make you a lot more visible than just a headlamp , not to be relied upon of course but it does help.

A ride in the countryside nice,a ride in the city is where the real action is.

The A-pillar frames the windshield on each side. The B-pillar is between the front and rear doors.

Another thing about blind spots. Your motorcycle is going to be almost completely below the window frame of a car. If you’re next to a car, the only thing the driver can potentially see is your upper torso which can be easily hidden behind the B or C pillars.

An additional factor is to SMIDSY is Saccadic masking, bikes are not just ‘filtered out’.  This is part of blind spots, not looking properly, and is another physics issue!

The head scan - by turning the head left to right, back (and repeated) the brain takes a series of ‘snapshots’ and the brain fills in the gaps with what it expects to see.  This is exacerbated by faster head turns.  So the driver is trying to do things properly, but by doing too quickly their brain simply doesn’t see everything in front of them.  A bike, being narrower and possibly moving more quickly, will blend in to the background much more easily.

If you think about it, some people pull out in front of buses, or trucks… 🤷‍♂️

I never overtake or filter when there's a junction to the left or right. Drivers often swing out to turn left. Often don't see you when they turn right, and also don't always indicate. When anyone, including bikers, are turning left out of a junction, they rarely look left before they emerge, this one has caught a few people out

ALSO REMEMBER SOME DRIVERS WILL DELIBERATELY TRY TO KNOCK YOU,OR CAUSE A CRASH,….THERE ARE SOME COMPLETE NUTTERS BEHIND THE WHEEL,AND HANDLEBARS!…DRINK,DRUGS,PHONE,DEFECTIVE SIGHT,ARGUMENTS WITH WIFE OR HUSBAND,P.M.T.,OR JUST PLAIN EFFING USELESS,..RIDE SAFE!😂

I ride a Harley Davidson heritage. I have engine guards bars on the front of the bike. I I put two headlights one on either side show that the subconscious mind of the driver can calculate my speed. Add 1000 feet divided lights would look forward to support. 100 feet did be 36 inches apart and it’s not a very calculated things. It’s called the railroad track effect if you Will be safe out there.

Approach to junctions. Always a pothole/grate/rut. If not, just imagine one and WEAVE. Hold full beam if necessary - a flash as a warning just tells them to pull out.
Timely reminder given the number of hot dozy idiots behind the wheel.

Hi can you advise me on undertaking is if im on a 30mph Road with two lanes going forward can go past the driver on my right if he's slow
