i’ve edited out some of my comments in this video and didn’t want to just do it silently. i communicated some thoughts very poorly in a way that could contribute to dangerous practices / ideas and i think it’s better to take them out rather rely on people finding clarifications in the comments

as a new yorker who has actually witnessed a horrific pedestrian death, i can assure you that people Do notice and consequently go to therapy about it for years after lmao

The plot has moved on but I really cannot get over the fact that she literally watched someone get pancaked in front of her and splattered with gore I didn't even consider, you know, rescheduling that meeting

Man, it never even occurred to me that the “when I was 10” comment was alluding to some tragic backstory. I just figured it was a really awkward reference to her first period.

It's so annoying how Lowen acts like she hasn't been around a comatose person before Verity. When the end stages of her mother's life would have most definitely been like that.

Colleen could've easily framed her unease of Verity as something that she feels because of witnessing her mother in a similar situation. It triggers her, makes her think back to those ugly powerless days. But no, that would mean actually giving her a personality

it has always grossed me out that lowen is convinced that verity is pure evil before she even gets to the parts of the maybe-autobiography about her hurting her children. what convinces lowen that verity is pure evil is verity experiencing incredibly common symptoms of pre- and postpartum depression that many real-life women go through. verity self-harming in an attempt to trigger a miscarriage is treated as something evil that verity is doing to others, her hating her pregnant body is treated as a sign of vanity and selfishness and not as something that most pregnant women go through, etc. her simply not wanting children in the first place is off-putting to lowen.
all this to say there are HEAVY pro-life undertones in colleen hoover's work. you are not reading into it too much it's a pretty consistent thing about her books, especially since most of her protagonists end up getting pregnant by the end. and there's also just general misogyny where women who don't want to be mothers or just aren't suited to be mothers are treated like there's something fundamentally wrong with them, like with verity.
