The A1GP (A1 Grand Prix) series should have been something wonderful. It should've heralded a new dawn in motorsport in which fans could watch for something more than...whatever it is they watched it for beforehand. Instead, it proved to be a lesson in what not to do when running a racing series. So, what went wrong?

Money made it appear, money made it disappear.

Exactly what I expect from a Revell video.

Answering questions I forgot I had a decade ago.

A1GP could have been so good, if only there had been someone with business sense running it.

10:33 You just made the whole Czech nation your enemy with that pronounciation.

10:33 My head couldnt get around the fact that Chechnya got a team... then I realised Josh massively mispronounced Czechia.

For those who don't understand the reference at about 24:30, the USS Indianapolis was a WW2 cruiser that was sunk in the Pacific in the closing days of the conflict. While most of the crew survived the sinking, the top-secret nature of its mission (it was returning from delivering the Hiroshima atom bomb) meant that it was traveling in radio silence and didn't have time to call in its position before going under. The men would then spend several days in the water being constantly attacked by sharks until a recon plane just happened to spot them and a rescue effort was mobilized. By that time, nearly 600 men had been lost, with sharks taking a large number of them.

4:16 man, it's such a shame Lotterer's only shot in F1 was in that dog of a caterham

As much of a problem as A1 ended up, a World Cup of Motorsport is such a cool concept.

I remember A1 GP, I watched the first season, caught a couple of races of the second season... and then forgot it existed.

I was there for the inaugural race, and watched the French and Italian cars smash into eachother in turn 1.

After A1GP folded, the trailers and shipping containers were stored on the industrial estate a short distance from my house, alongside Jaguar Racing's F1 lorries...

Graham Rahal racing for Lebanon is an interesting one. I know they were of Lebanese decent but didn't realize Graham was around for this A1 series.

The first racing series in history were nation against nation.
That's where we get get British Racing Green, German Silver Arrows, French Blue, Japanese White, and Ferrari Red.
But they quickly became manufacturer against manufacturer as the different countries got more and more private carmakers that were competitive.

6:06 okay, I will admit that phrase is pretty damn cool. If motorsports was ever in the Olympics I’d want to hear that before every race

As a kid I remember going to the A1GP in Taupo, it was my first taste of a truly international series (I had gone to a few Supercars events before but nothing like this scale), and I absolutely loved it. Still have my Team NZ top too
