Cyberpunk did worldbuilding really well.  It's insane how fast I went from chuckling at the absurd ads to not even noticing them.

There's a dialogue interaction in cyberpunk between two children, regarding the in universe show "Safe and Sound" which features a pug and a doberman. One child mentions they know the doberman is a dog and a real animal because Lizzy Wizzy has one just like it, but they both agree pugs are too weird and ugly to be real. So that's about how much the general public is familiar with dogs, they are indeed for the ultra rich only.

Honestly, using a giant space laser to obliterate ivory poachers is genuinely the best thing Arasaka ever does.

FYI, that 24/7 Store is apparently, according to a random message on a laptop in a Gig, one of the only genuinely good places left in Night City selling good products at a good price, and they stay open 24/7 because if they don’t, people will start eating other stores’ “meat” and “produce”

There's a rule that when you play Cyberpunk, your family member will come to your room when you will be close that Mi*f Guard ad screen :)

I could never get rid of the "*moaning noises* Watson who-"

It’s 3 in the morning and i’m watching Johhny Silver-Shlong explain Cyberpunk 2077 ads. Absolute Cinema

What I love about the ads is just how truthful and to the point they are.
Like if there's a beer commercial and it says "Our beer is 3x the strength and 3x the calories, but you'll buy it anyways because you're not buying beer to be healthy. You're buying beer to have a good night"
Well god damn, hard to argue with that logic.

It took me months to get "NICOLA,  TASTE THE LOVE" out of my head

9:38 theres also a convo you can hear between two npc kids where they're talking about dogs and they cant distinguish between a dog and a cat. Not only that. They think they're dinosaurs. That's how rare dogs are

Now I just realize something, the ads in Night City, most of them anyways, have a barcode in the corner of the billboard. The implication is the ads could be much more intrusive than we see as V. I imagine someone with optic cyberware can scan the ads and it will "pop" inside your brain, perhaps walking the street of NC without some sort of "protection" is akin to getting unskippable ads in Youtube every time the person seen a billboard.

This might seem silly, but playing Cyberpunk made ads in real life go in my mind from “this is kind of annoying” to “I actively resent that you’re trying to make a product out of me”. That’s good satire. It shows what already was there by exaggerating it to the extreme, making you realize just how insidious the actual real-life thing is.

The ads in Cyberpunk are exactly what you'd expect from a corporate dystopia, depressing but also true

The best part is that a huge part of these have animations, but they are virtually never used. Theres a mod that replaces every ad with their animated counterpart. Highly recommend!

Now this is exactly the type of video Id watch from “Jez”

I've heard a few people who played this game say they were turned off by the ads, thinking the developers were trying to go for a "Saints Row" absurd comedy tone, and saying it clashed with how serious the story is...

Of course, these are also the same people who complained the radio is too much rock, hip hop, pop, jazz, metal, etc. and not enough "outrun style" retro synthwave...

And I realized, these people just have the most generic possible mental image of what a "proper" cyberpunk world looks like, based on a very limited scope of a few games and movies they've consumed.

The thing is, Cyberpunk (the franchise, not the genre), works as well as it does, and stands out as uniquely as it does because it has a more realistic portrayal of what a real cyberpunk society 50 or so years from now would look like. Just because it's a cyberpunk society, doesn't mean every person now only listens to retro synthwave. Just because it's a cyberpunk society, doesn't mean every single corporation and company is now making "cyberpunk-themed," sleek, asian-influenced ads like the iconic one with the geisha in Blade Runner.

I've even seen mods that replace every ad with "cooler" ads similar to blade runner that really just feel more generic in the setting of Night City.

Cyberpunk's setting is multicultural, but it's also obnoxiously American, and the advertisements are representative of that, being basically the ads we already have in modern day, just with the noise, color, and lack of ethical consideration turned up to a shrill 11.

It's a similar situation with the music: when you turn on the radio in Cyberpunk and hear PonPon Shit, Gr4ves, Hole In The Sun, etc... you're supposed to think, "yep, this sounds like a natural progression of where music might go one day, from where we are right now." There's also people who just don't understand thematic use of music in media: when the Edgerunners anime opening credits sequence first released, with Franz Ferdinand's "This Fffire" as the main theme, I heard a lot of people complain that this "generic rock song" (calling Franz Ferdinand "generic rock" is also just bad taste, imo lol), and that it doesn't "feel cyberpunk", that it should be - once again - some sort of synthwave or electronic music. Some people are just unwilling to be adventurous and try different flavors of something they love, I guess.

The ads aren't supposed to be comedic parody like in Saints Row, even if they might make you laugh at how absurd they can be... first and foremost, they're supposed to make your skin crawl, make you say, "Are we really at the point where it's ok to sell your product like that?"

Hedonistic is a great word to describe it.

I still remember playing Cyberpunk for the first time, taking the elevator for the first time and hearing "clean clean speed". The ads are sick and help to sell the feeling of the world

The cyberpunk trope of animals being REALLY rare comes from "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" novel, where part of the world building is that all animals are dead, or shipped off to space so a lot of the cast pay a lot of money for a real pet, rather than an android animal.

The ads in this game have to be some of my favorite satire in any media ever.

They're so over the top & outrageous, they fit the theme of Cyberpunk so well.
