Fun fact: The Germans lost more men attacking Pavlov's house at Stalingrad, than they did during their entire push on Paris.

I read a book about the battle of Stalingrad and there’s a story that stuck with me. When the Germans surrendered a couple of Russian troops saw these two German soldiers no more than 17 years old and they thought they had really nice leather gloves and one of the Soviet soldiers walked up to take the gloves and then he realized they weren’t gloves at all, their hands had been so badly frostbitten that they were black.

30 seconds in and already we have a myth that needs busting. No - the Germans did not trynto capture the city just because it had Stalin's name in it. It was strategically important to secure the northern flank of army group south.

@arcaderecaps 3 months ago

The very moment Hitler's armies stepped foot in the USSR the clock began ticking down on the Third Reich

@R-TrainExpress 2 months ago

Hitler taking Stalingrad simply due to its name has been debunked for decades at this point. Stalingrad was needed to block Soviet reinforcements to the caucuses oil fields so army group south could capture the oil fields.

The numbers on screen often don't match the numbers said out loud

@Tim22222 3 weeks ago

Cool video, very informative. But very sloppy with the on-screen numbers, lots of rudimentary errors.

Stalingrad wasnt just a Sidequest.
It was an Important Strategic Target. It was the Gateway from Moscow to the South and you block the River from Sowjet Ships.

Germany focusing on Stalingrad was nuts. Even if they’d taken the city, there’s nothing there. And meanwhile you’ve got Soviets on your flanks.

@gunnerkanaziz7181 3 months ago

Saying he was obsessed with Stalingrad because it was named after Stalin is a complete lie.The city was important because it would block off the Soviets from sending troops into the caucuses by land and Hitler split his forces so half would ignore the city and take the oil fields .Manstein even wanted to send troops from the caucuses to the city to help with its capture but Hitler said no because the city was less of a priority.

I got a german Soldbuch of a 21 year old artilleryman. He got Malaria two weeks before his regiment entered stalingrad, he went to a field hospital, while his regiment was later wiped out two months later.

@09:32: "Largest encirclement of the entire war".

Encirclements in Kiev & Smolensk: Are we a joke to you?

@Jarne11-pq9fv 2 months ago

Fun fact that was not the biggest encirclement in the entire war the biggest was in 1941 battle of Kiev the Wehrmacht encircled 670.000 Soviet troops most of them where killed or captured that was the biggest encirclement in military history.
