Jason Arday, the wunderkind sociologist and youngest ever black professor at Cambridge, has an almost unbelievable backstory. Overcoming illiteracy and autism, he became the jewel in the crown of the university’s pivot towards diversity post-2021. He has been lauded by celebrities, raised millions for charity, suffered abuse from detractors and found time to run hundreds of miles. Or has he? He didn’t call the police when a masked man with a knife threatened him, but he did call the police when a journalist wanted to as him some questions about his writings.

The scandal is not about Arday's fantasy achievements. The scandal should be about those who bought his stories and promoted him because they wanted the lies to be truth.

Kathleen Stock is brilliant, clear-headed and articulate. And to think that she was hounded out of a professorship for speaking the truth, and Sussex University failed to defend her. The contrast with the Arday case and Cambridge University's behaviour is surreal.

This is stunningly depressing. People need to stop thinking 'Right or Left' and start thinking 'Right or Wrong'.
Cambridge should not be allowed to go down the toilet, but it appears to be heading for the U-Bend fast.

He's a charlatan. Cambridge wanted a black professor more than it wanted to preserve academic excellence.

I had a real brain tumour at fifteen. A year in hospital. Straight back into school after my treatment. I worked my ass off to get my GCSE's, and harder to get my A-levels (A,A,B). I finished my Law degree. It makes me so mad to hear he is using his alleged tumor to excuse plagiarism, claiming memory loss, please. Lying about cancer isn't a simple embellishment, it's a malicious, disrespectful, and callus.

An absolute disgrace to all those hard working students spending hours researching and thinking and writing their own thoughts. Shame on Cambridge for allowing this cheat to be accepted without due diligence.
