After careful deliberation I decided this channel should be called How Money Broke

The fact that I could still get every single part I would ever need to repair my 1991 Toyota Camry. In 2025 still blows my mind

I love how the pandemic just showed to everyone the intrinsic problems we have with every aspect of society. Job market, cars and transportation, housing, food, healthcare, tech, tourism, consumer products, finance, retirement plans, clothes, music, videogames, cinema, streaming, dating, social interactions. It's ALL shit now.

A system built on greed is finally eating itself.

"When you can't get anymore out of them...the only option left is to give them less for the same."
Wow that actually puts alot into perspective. Damn i never thought of it that way, but it explains so much of whats causing enshitification.

Manufacturers: "People only buy SUVs"
Consumers: "Because that's all you make!"

What I don't understand is how this house of cards is still standing. Seems like debt cycles can run for a very long time before becoming a problem.

I'd love an older car that is NOT flooded with computers, sensors, etc. I went from a 2019 back to a 2012 vehicle simply because there's less to go wrong with it.

You’ll own nothing and you’ll be miserable.

Been saying it for a decade now: Marketing scammers convinced people, who know nothing about cars, that those turn into a pumpkin from Cinderella after a few years or 100k miles and that you somehow need those ugly touchscreens and whatnot.
You gotta be mentally challenged to buy new cars theese days, even if you have money to buy em in cash - those have essentially become overpriced gadgets on wheels instead of cars.

Lmao, people aren't holding onto cars longer because they're better. They're holding onto them longer because they can't afford a new car.

Wealth inequality and the infinite extraction of wealth is destroying everything, anyone noticed the toilet paper got smaller and feels cheaper.

My husband and I own 11 year old domestic compacts. They still run great and are easy to maintain. No payments. We need to bring back small inexpensive repairable vehicles.

7:36 This is the BIGGEST problem with EV, the absolute lack of aftermarket parts supplies, tools, refurbished components, heck even just junkyard parts.
Worked many years at an auto parts store and the 'only' things we had for a Tesla was brake rotors, pads, and wiper blades. Could not source any other parts.

But you need a $1400 refurb engine for a 2018 Toyota crv to stick in a customer's car after the old engine blew up? That's doable. Steering columns, Air conditioner compressors, evaporators, condensers? Yeah.
Refurb motors with fresh brushes for your power windows? Yep got those. Refurb motors with fresh brushes for an EV powertrain? Nope. New from dealer only, $15,000.

First EV company to free up their patents and let aftermarket help keep vehicles on the road for 10-20 years for dirt cheap will be the one everyone gravitates to. Waiting///
It's a bandage that's gonna have to be ripped off sonner than later, and it's easier to rip it off sooner.
There's a reason why the Chevy Volt is like the only affordable used EV option. 90% of the car has aftermarket support already, being it's the same frame and parts as used in the Chevy Cruze, which has a LOT of used options already, and enough volts are in the wild to be able to get 'junkyard' parts for drivetrain, battery, and whatnot. Finally.
(Easy to find in good condition as a private sale, below $5000, that's my metric for a "good" car model)

I am poor. I do not want to fear my appliances breaking on any single day because they were designed to break at any moment. I do not want to pay 80$ for a video game I might play only for 10 hours. Save the environment and build to last and when something inevitably breaks, recycle it.

Enshitification. That's why. Companies have reached a point they care more about raising their stock prices then actually producing a good product. Disney went from a revolutionary Lion King in 1990 to an unimaginative Mufasa

as a mechanic the future of repairing these new vehicles separate from dealerships scare me badly

I bought myself a new old car the other day everything works...and I don't owe anyone anything..cheers

Companies are no longer in the business of producing goods, they are finiacial service companies and the main concern is stock price. Decrease costs (quality) and increase prices.
