Gotta give props to Silver. He managed to save his future without it getting erased years later. Not every time traveler can say that.

Silver doesn't need a reason to still be around any more than Shadow does. He's beloved and has finished his main character arc, and now he is welcome in any story that would fit him. I once heard somebody say that people will look back on Silver in the future the same way that we look back on Shadow now, and I hope they're right.

This video singlehandedly made so many plot points and details of 06 suddenly make sense. What the fuck.

i never realized how much the english translations change the details of the game, it's kind of wild

What is this?!?! A Sonic 06 video that looks at the actual story without prejudice or rose-tinted glasses?!?! And it's about SILVER 🙏🏾
I really did resonate with the end of the video. Finding hope in the face of what feels like a doomed present and future is hard, but just like Silver can believe that there is a way to write a happier future, so do I. Great video brother

I honestly hope Silver can come back, written by people who understand the character but also understand the mistakes made with him.

i ended up on this video by chance only because the artist of the thumbnail popped up on my twitter and its safe to say i am ugly crying right now. i just love this guy so much and he deserves so much more appreciation. this is the best analysis ever, thank you

Honestly, this has done more service and explained Silver's character to me more than anything else. I assumed the IDW naivety exaggeration was more in-line with the original vision than not but I should've known better considering Shadow and Amy straying from their first (and peak) voiced appearances.

Silver isn't just a young headstrong cinnamon bun, he's a soulful and brash warrior who refuses to give up. Really, you've elaborated so brilliantly on every point and the production notes of Silver that it's a far better take than what many of his other fans have tried to describe about him. Silver is best explained not as a 1:1 hedgehog analogy of Trunks, but as a layered and nuanced character that goes through an arc but fails to overcome it because it's integral to his theming of hesitation, to come to a stop. He's not a dark mirror, he's not an reversed dimension, he's not a robotic copy, and he's definitely not an arrogant rival...

Silver the Hedgehog is the opposite of Sonic the Hedgehog. Whereas one is throwing themselves at obstacles and always on the move, the other must pause and move the world around them instead.

As a huge Silver defender I agree with him being grossly misinterpreted in English. Thank you.

I love my boi and really hope he gets his real second chance one day as a main playable character again

Edit: after a rewatch id also like to add that the mistranslations from his few other appearances matter too, because it's implied that Silver also exists outside of time like he did in Archie and he does actually remember 06 as he was pulled from a changed future to fight iblis outside of time, so there was nowhere else for him to return to except outside of time like Mephiles, difference being he had ties to the future and returned there, yet a changed one. One where Iblis never existed, yet he actually fully remembers. He just doesn't bring it up because that's a lot of trauma. And how do you tell your best friend and even your crush when you see her again that "I watched you die" no. You keep that to yourself. He embodies hope and keeps that burden of knowledge to himself.

Anyway thanks again for the video. I just love Silver so much and hope he gets that redemption chance.

37:28 So, my guess is that the princess kissing Sonic to wake him up from a sleep-like death is meant to parallel stories about princes kissing maidens to wake them up from death-like comas.

Take that as you will.

Ngl Silver peaked here. He had a pretty solid story here and it would’ve made for a good introduction to his character if it wasn’t in 06

Greatest silver analysis ever. I haven't even finished watching it but it's just so peak...

17:03 thank you for calling out the hypocrisy and double standards of Sonic fans! 👏🏾😤

I really like how you concluded that mephiles is a dark reflection of the Duke's wish, that really puts his character in a different light. And to bounce off of that I think mephiles also serves as a punishment for humanity for trying to control and alter time. He had a chance to escape in generations because eggman tried to change history. And when he mentions what humanity did to shadow you can sense some kind distant in his voice.

This video was absolutely amazing! Your analysis was so thoughtful and in-depth, and really made Silver’s integration into 06’s plot more clear and focused. I also really liked how you explained the translations of dialogue between English and Japanese as I feel this context is very easily lost to us.
And thank you for explaining how Silver is the light of hope in Sonic’s universe, and not the hollow caricature of a character people make fun of. Just seeing discussion like this is making me want a Silver game even more so Sega can really show off what makes him such a beloved character within the fan base

Finally finished the video and it was excellent. It helped clear up some of the foggier parts of 06's story and even gave me new appreciation for Silver and Blaze's relationship (Like how Blaze choosing the world for Silver juxtaposes Amy and Rouge choosing their companion over the world.) and I never noticed how blue is tied to Silver until this video. Overall excellent work I'm glad one of my favorite characters got an analysis like this.

This is te best most accurate silver analysis ever

Bruh the Japanese translation with the Aoi hedgehog…. That just saved 06’s story for me wtf. All 3 hedgehogs were written so well, with intention and focus behind their actions. 06 already had Mephiles as my fav villain. I wish Sega would take a big risk project like this on again, with multiple hedgehogs and different gameplay styles.

god this video is so good. silver has always been my favorite character since i was a middle schooler playing sonic 06 after school. you laid out why he's such a good character so clearly and even taught me a lot of new things about my favorite character and my favorite sonic game. great work!

I love how you explain silvers abilities and clear up some misconceptions
