Englishman here. I admire your candour, an excellent personal analysis. You've clearly thought deeply about these topics, as all people should. Best wishes to you and yours.

Thank you from someone born in the UK for reminding us of the benefits of living here and things that we take for granted. I enjoy watching your videos, its always interesting to see things from another's perspective.

Interesting, thoughtful, commentary on US today, belated welcome to the UK

I lived in the US in my teens. There's a huge amount of insight in this film. One of the things I noticed growing up in the US and UK was that US kids are greatly constrained in what they can do, because of the risks of being sued over injuries that may befall them. With free healthcare, if you disregard you're father's advice not to climb a neighbours tree, and fall out if, both your father and the neighbour will view it a necessary learning-experience, not an opportunity to sue the neighbour.

I very much enjoy your observations. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about them...

Glad to have Americans like you in the UK. Welcome to the Free World. My only real advice would be to be very careful in the way you conversationally conflate the UK and England.

Enjoyed your measured and considered appeal to your compatriots. My wife and I (English) lived in Czechia (Prague) with a US national (Alaska) and regularly discussed the differences between UK, US and CZ. Glad you appreciate some of our basic "rights" which we sometimes take for granted (NHS, working rights & benefits, short distance from amenities etc). Good to be reminded. I was once told that "Americans think 100 years is old and Brits think 100 miles is far"

As a Brit, I have to agree.  The UK  has quite a few improvements needed, often things that are just down to people  not giving a monkeys,  when they should. Hopefully we will get there eventually,  if not there, then closer.

Thank you Jai. That was a most insightful talk on what’s good about UK and what’s still good about America. It’s such a valuable lesson. ❤

This video has viral potential 🎉

I have lived & worked in 4 different countries & there is no utopia but magic in different countries.  One has to draw on the positive in each one.

Well said my friend. I am 71 years old and we are considering moving away from the US.  Thank you for your well thought words.

You are correct that roundabouts (circulars ?) slow the max speed of traffic down but the main benefit of Roundabouts in collisions is that they are nigh on always "side on side" deflections unlike American 4 way stops that someone has "run the lights" and invariably T-bones the other vehicle  causing catastrophic damage due to both the higher speed and the direct impact.
If you use roundabouts correctly you shouldn't even need to stop for very long (if at all when it's not peak traffic) so your actual journey time is lower.
I think as a Brit who even used to live in Western Australia (hence my handle) the biggest thing that pisses me off about living in america is the vast distances you HAVE to drive just to "Pop to the Shop".
I visited my Bro who lives In Barrington , New Hampshire recently and his nearest shop is the equivalent of me driving from my home in Peterborough to Wisbech to buy a bottle of milk !
I can literally walk 500 steps from my house and I'm in a shopping complex with a major bus connection. (Westwood Shops, Peterborough) and Peterborough isn't even a big City.
Admittedly in Australia  the distances were further but Deli(catessens) where sprinkled all over the place so you didn't have to go far for foodstuffs you'd forgotten. Bus stops were nearby too.
I lived in Forrestfield W.A for context.

Patriotism? Go to the Edith Cavell memorial opposite the entrance to the Portrait Gallery in London.
A Nurse in 1915, Cavell treated both German and English wounded
"Patriotism is not enough. I must not bear hatred to anyone. "

Yes, I lived 15 years in the USA 🇺🇸 and now 15 years in the uk 🇬🇧. You can only see these differences when you actually  have lived in both places. There are prons and cons and likes and dislikes in both. I loved and still love people in the USA - so open, friendly and helpful. I loved big houses, spaces and people allowing your own space even when speaking with you. 😅 I loved work ethics in the USA as I remember bosses honouring even the lowest role employee like cleaners greeting them etc.. In Europe and uk I found a big class system. Aaa and I loved USA holidays - 4th of July, Halloween 🎃 and thanksgiving. Oh I miss those!
But certainly don’t miss hospital bills or any doctor appointments as they are insanely expensive, even for the simple blood test. In the uk 🇬🇧 it’s all free - yea slower service with some hiccups but it’s there for you. In Uk 🇬🇧 food in the simplest supermarket is healthy and good quality. In the USA 🇺🇸 you need to know where to shop for the good organic food.
Oh dear, and holidays if you work for a company are so very little in states. Why? Aren’t people needing to enjoy their lives? That I never understood in USA. Barely 2 weeks off a year. Cmon that’s a joke. In the uk 🇬🇧 I quickly got used to 6 weeks off and plus sick days too. It’s just felt so normal.
Yes! I guess it’s nice to spend time in the USA 🇺🇸 and uk 🇬🇧 if you can and just be happy with both worlds. ❤🎉
I live in London but happily visit USA 🇺🇸 part of my heart is there. ❤

Jay have you noticed with the NHS as an example, that there is nothing remotely socialist or communist about it, l never understand how some US citizens equate free health care to communism or socialism, its almost as though US citizens dont know the true definition of what socialism or communism actually is.

Just FYI - you can get paternity leave here in the UK; your wife can forego some of her maternity leave allowance and allow you to have that time. The most obvious reason why a couple might do this is if the mother is a higher earner than the father, but it can also be used to allow both parents to stay home for the first few weeks of a new born's life.

Just one more thing which l know irks a lot of US ladies and gents, is that when you go shopping, the price of any item you buy is the amount you pay at the checkout without you having to work out the taxes of all the items you buy and you can cross the road in many more places than you can in the states without you being arrested for Jaywalking, a crminal offence to cross a road in the wrong place.

A world that works for ordinary people? Amen to that! I think after the financial crash, then Covid, then Russia's war on Ukraine a lot of us have got tired of the status quo - but we should be more thankful for the stuff that works

Thank you for your service. And welcome to Britain, especially England! 🇬🇧
