EDIT (8/22/26): For those that don't know, I donate all of my YouTube ad revenue to San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital through the annual Extra Life charity event, a 24-hour livestreamed video game marathon.  I just wanted to thank you all for watching as this video alone has earned almost $45.  This year's marathon starts at noon PST on Saturday, Nov. 7.  It will be streamed here on YouTube and my Twitch channel.  If you decide to check it out, feel free to pop in the chat and say hello!  Here's my event page: https://dd.extra-life.org/participants/AndrewEisen

A little BTS appeared in my feed this afternoon showing that while there may be a turntable in the floor, the set is rotating.  I think my brain failed to consider the option because that would obscure part of the performance from the audience.  Then again, for all I know, it's an in the round stage.  Of course, that would block a chunk of the performance either way so... who knows?  Actually, I bet most of you do!

EDIT: Listened to an official recording and yep, those were strategic breaths!  Also, it's not often I do, but I enjoyed the live performance more mainly due to the official recording employing post processing vocal effects that I've never been a fan of.

This song and performance won with the biggest difference between first and second place in Eurovision history.

Everything happens live and is calculated down to the second.

Her performance is like a therapy session. It's about losing your masks and be yourself. Of course every act at the ESC has their own choreography and sets and camera settings. It's the biggest show in Europe, and they prepare for weeks to make it happen. It's choreographed with professionals, rehearsed for weeks. The word "Bangarang" comes from Jamaican Patois and means "riot" or "disturbance". In the context of the song, it stands for energy, chaos, and celebration. She practiced breathing while moving for weeks. This is an act to connect people with music. I wished there would be a world song contest. We had much fewer wars if we all would connect with music, dance and international friendships.

You absolutely are allowed to coreograph with the cameras! Everyone does, some are just better at it than others. Every performance is timed down to a second, every camera movement calculated and preplanned. It's a huge production.

I urge you to look at the behind the scenes of this performance, it's so well choreographed.
Also this isn't the winner's reprisal performance, this from earlier in the show - before the votes were revealed!

Eurovision is probably one of the most advanced stage productions in the world, at least the most complicated. So many songs, so many weird sets, different choreos, camera positions and so on.

I'm glad you caught the tempo changes, they're  typical for our folklore music.

The thing to understand about Eurovision is that each song is its own mini TV production. Many of the cameras are remote and programmed for each song, as too is the lighting. Each contestant will will have a production team, including set design, choreography, lighting design and a storyboard that establishes all the camera shots. This is all largely pre programmed into the vast array of computers that control much of the final live production. It has to be done this way to ensure accurate timing of the whole show, which includes about 45 seconds for set changeovers between songs. Everything is totally pre-planned, well rehearsed, even involving LED floor maps that show set construction crews where everything has to be placed. It’s actually a technical masterpiece in live TV production terms. Remember, it’s not just a simple TV production for a single audience. It’s being simultaneously broadcast to countries around the world, so they can’t really leave camera shots to the whim of a few well placed camera operators.

The great thing about art, in any form, is that it leaves room for interpretation.

DARA has explained in interviews that “Bangaranga” is about confronting the inner demons we carry—such as anxiety, shame and doubt—and finding the self-belief that everything will be all right and that anything is possible. She has also connected the song to her struggles with anxiety and perfectionism. Its concept draws inspiration from the Bulgarian Kukeri tradition, in which frightening masks, costumes and bells are used symbolically to drive away evil spirits.

From the first time I heard it, I personally associated it with the long struggle many Bulgarians feel they are fighting—for justice, fairness, a better standard of living and a government free from corruption. It also reminded me of the mass protests in late 2025, which helped bring about the government’s resignation in December. That is only my own interpretation, however, and not necessarily the songwriters’ original intention.

The song was originally written in 2023, when many of these broader problems already existed, but well before those particular protests took place.

As for the word “Bangaranga,” it has no established meaning in Bulgarian. It appears to be a stylised form of the Jamaican Patois word “bangarang,” meaning a disturbance, commotion, uproar or trouble.

every eurovision performance is directed thoroughly with camera angles etc, they are never just cut together on a fly

Why you wonder - Dara shared to us that she was lot running and singind in the same time to get possibility to dance and perform as good as possible this song and herself

The song symbolizes a liberating inner awakening and the choice of love over fear. The setting is reminiscent of communism—Bulgaria was one of the countries on the other side of the Berlin Wall—and during the communist era, we all wore the same clothes and lived in the same houses. And we weren’t free. We lived in fear. The song’s message is to find a way to love one another just as we are—different and free. And there’s always a rebellion that awakens us.

All performances are directed and rehearsed. The cameras are programmed to switch between cameras, add effects and such. The rest are cameramen running around, out of view of the other cameras and switching.

It's not just a case of go up and perform. A lot of it as about creativity of the performance, as much as the song and singing.

Every act coordinates with the Eurovision team, for where sets and props need to be, as well as where the cameras need to be and how to hide them, etc...

The song is about everyone stuck in a rut, living in and just allowing the status quo and she's saying she wants to stir things up, make things uncomfortable and stand up for what's right. It's a bit of a battle cry, I suppose, against how things are and how they could be if people were energised and given the light to feel empowered to change things.

Not a single soul thought this was winning up until maybe a couple days before the final and it was a pleasant surprise for most of us. It also won both the televote and jury (first time that's happened since 2017). There was a point where I wasn't sure if this was gonna qualify for the final (egg on my face). The grand final performances are sort of lower stakes because they perform for the jury the night before and unless you fuck up badly being a little bit out of breath or off is probably not gonna impact you too much.

In Croatia's performance they were a 5 woman group but had a male backing vocalist backstage (he even posted himself singing with them during semi 1 lol). I don't know the full logistics of how backing vocalists are inserted into performances but it's still super interesting.

Choreographing with the camera is kind of the second most important thing that you can do in ESC (having a decent song is first place, singing good comes in at third place, at best). Many of the winners has been really great at it.

The same person who choreographed this number (the Swede Benke Rydman) also choreographed the winner of 2015, Måns Zelmerlöw with "Heroes", who is heavily dependent on the exactly right camera angles, and then also the winning number from 2024, which was Nemo with "The code". The latter has also planned every camera shot. They have been practicing for months to be sure that the artist knows every smile, step and twirl when it's time for the big performance, and it has paid off.

This is something that all the contestants do, they don't leave anything up to chance. Some just suck at it while others actually can be too good at it and lose identity in the process.

WOW you have noticed stuff I haven't and I've listened to that song about a million times. You have kinda changed the way I look at it at some parts lol. Great eye! 😮 ignore the hate comments, I love your analyzation! Dara also got a lot of hate before she went onto eurovision and wanted to quit but there you go she went on and won🎉

Bangaranga comes from Jamaican patois and it can be translated as "riot, chaos, uproar".

There was a rule change about backup singers recently. Until 2020, no vocals were allowed on the backing tracks AT ALL. And with the 6-person limit on stage, that made complex vocal arrangements pretty challenging (but more interesting in my opinion). The 2021 contest was the first to allow vocals on the backing tracks, likely for pandemic safety. There are still rules about how much is allowed and all the tracks have to be approved first. So Dara isn’t handing the dangerous “bangaranga”s off to a backup singer, she’s handing them off to her studio self.

Camera angles are 100% part of the staging. The national TV Channels delegate to their national staff the decision to set the frames, choreography and staging. EBU + Host broadcaster hosting the competition follow the directives for setting the frame, choreography and staging.
