No fucking way bro thanks for covering my game. I watch your vids all the time. new update soon with a ton of new features btw

game so fucking fire the community had to tell the dev to charge for it.

Glad you're covering this, this game is peak

This game is incredible but the community surpirised me the most, I come back after like 2 years and theyre still going but everyone is nice and patient. The trash talk is rarely mean, and I have straight up had people teach me while fighting me how to do the tech. I'm glad to see the dev here and getting attention they definitely deserve it.

Wow I never expected for you to play this, welcome my brotha to the yomi community, this game is Peak

oh hey! its me getting destroyed in the end.

YOMI MENTIONED RAAAAAAHHHH

Very funny to see my DOOM mod appeared for a second :P
Great video!

It's really fun seeing another person discover this game! It's super awesome and really fun once you get into it. I also kinda really like teaching people things so I will leave some useful tidbits if I may :3

7:32 Definitely right call. Vanilla Yomi Hustle is much better at actually using it's mechanics for engaging gameplay, while 95% of mods struggle with having a kit that fits cohesively in the context of Yomi Hustle (usually caused by the fact the mod devs don't get nearly as much player feedback as the main game does, so not their fault, but still present).
Also I personally just find Vanilla more fun.

12:48 They CAN just parry all of that. In fact, if you were to fight an experienced player, they would do that and invalidate all of your darts and bombs. You see, Wizard's gameplan is actually more akin to a setplay rushdown - you setup a dart, rarely maybe even 2, and then dash forward alongside it. This works because 1. It limits the amount of ways the opponent can hit you without getting hit by the dart 2. You can use your Gust special to fling your dart straight at them, giving you  threat that they need to respect, hence being vulnerable to getting opened up by your offense. (Usually resulting in a Blockstring rather than a Combo on Wizard specifically, but still)

14:23 He used the 1-meter super "Teleport". Teleport however is fully IOOT - Interruptible On Opponent's Turn (will explain more later), which basically means is that they will get a turn (and hence be able to cancel their move) at the same time as when you get a turn, no matter what* (*unless your action takes longer than their entire action, then they get it first ofc). So what happened is that they used teleport, but you got your turn before their teleport finished, hence also giving them a turn, hence giving them the chance to cancel the teleport by selecting another move, before it actually teleports them. Teleport teleports you on frame 7 after use specifically.

23:28 Okay so the difference between "Interrupt" and "Ready" is actually REALLY important, but REALLY easy to miss. Many experienced players don't know about the difference, and only operate around it through familiarity.
You see, the crux of Yomi's fundamental gameplay is the prediction system. Understanding it properly already puts you in the top 15% of players.
You get a "turn" (being able to select a move that isn't Hold, Whiff Cancel or Burst) any time your character is actionable. So as soon as you end your endlag, the game stops and lets you pick a move. On prediction, that'd be visualised as "ready". Like if you select tome slap, then on prediction you would see "Ready in 12f" because that's when Tome Slap's endlag finishes.
If this was how everything worked though, it would lead to many scenarios where your opponent ends their endlag 2 frames after your turn, and hence is able to perfectly react to your move after you make yours. To that, the concept of IOOT (Interruptible On Opponent's Turn) was introduced.
Let's say you chose Dash Forward with the distance slider at 100. When Dash's distance slider is maxed out, the "endlag" (usually called "IASA" in yomi; Interruptible As Soon As) of the Dash Forward would be 15 frames. Now if on your opponent's side you select "Wait", then you'll see something strange - Wait has an IASA ("endlag") of 10, while Dash Forward has an IASA ("endlag") of 15. So you'd expect your opponent to take their turn 5 frames before you do - however, both of you would actually have your turn at the same time, in 10 frames! That's because Dash Forward is fully Interruptible On Opponent's Turn, so if gives you your turn if your opponent has a turn during it's duration. Since your opponent is Ready in f10, your Dash Forward Interrupts in 10 frames. What's important about this is that if the opponent chose a move with more "endlag", then you would take your turn later aswell - which is very important, because it could make a projectile hit you before you're actionable (if it hit you on f12 for example).
This ties into Free Cancels. When you use a Free Cancel (indicated by the "Free" toggle below "Lock In"), you make your current move have the IOOT property. This is why after using Magic Dart you were always able to move at the same time as your opponent - Your Magic Dart's "endlag" of 16 frames got Interrupted during your opponent's turn, hence cancelling the move, but still summoning the dart since the dart spawns like f8 or smth like that.
Free Cancels exist to allow aggression to be viable - you cannot be whiff punished for missing a move if that move was Free Cancelled. It means you basically get to throw out 2 attacks per neutral without getting punished, making it a resource you need to keep track of. (Both players get their Free Cancels back if any of them gets hit btw)
A good strategy for Begginer and Intermediate players (Experienced players too but just not as the sole gameplan) is to hang around and bait out your opponent's attacks to make them waste both of their free cancels, then whiff punish them once they throw out a laggy attack without a Free Cancel.

I really love talking and teaching about Yomi and I really wish you'd play more (especially vanilla, cuz most YomiTubers focus on mods and lack any interesting gameplay) but I understand if you don't want to, it is a pretty daunting game.

It does have it's biggest tournament ever being hosted in a few weeks though, maybe you could at least spectate it to see what Competitive Yomi looks like? That'd be really cool.

11:23 dear god he's already becoming one of them

Best 5$ I ever spent

Dear god, that cowboy in the second game was something else lmao. Really reminded me of how it was being a new player

2:08 I love how Diaphone has the opposite impression where he finds the game's a lot easier than it looks, because for most noobs the game ends up being a lot HARDER than they expect

Yomi and diaphone is smth ive been waitin for LOL

$2500 tournament is bringing traction back to yomi lets go

If yomi could be covered here....maybe Duelist of Eden could be covered by big Phone..

YOOOOMIIIIII!!!!

“Lucy from guilty gear strive” 😭

I'm glad to see the game is doing really well. I don't play it as much as I'd like to anymore but it's pretty goated. I find it more entertaining with friends because you're both just trash talking in-between moves, and then the small bit of animation you get afterwards is just hilarious.

it might be the addy speaking but i think I could watch you play this game for 8 more hours
