While this video uploads, I thought it’d be fun to address some of the biggest questions and critiques I expect might come up. Here's a quick Q&A!
1. Do you hate MrBeast?
Absolutely not. I love watching MrBeast's videos because he constantly pushes boundaries and takes creative risks. From VFX and music selection to sound design and storytelling progression, I’ve enjoyed 99% of his videos. This is the first MrBeast video I didn't enjoy.
2. You’re overanalyzing a bit, no?
It’s an editing breakdown. Would you tell a sports commentator to stop analyzing a touchdown play-by-play and just say, “Wow! That's another football moment”? MrBeast himself overanalyzes his content with a large team of editors, analysts, and strategists watching multiple drafts before release.
3. MrBeast has more views than you.
Of course he does—he’s the most subscribed YouTuber on the platform! But just because Usain Bolt exists, does that mean no one else can critique running techniques? (For the record, YouTube growth strategists with fewer subscribers than MrBeast have also helped him grow. Ie: Paddy Galloway)
4. MrBeast videos are for kids.
That’s true, but his content also targets adults. Certain themes, jokes, and innuendos wouldn’t be present if he was only aiming at kids. It’s like SpongeBob—fun for kids but layered with self awareness and humor adults can appreciate.
5. He showed the Day Counter onscreen 24/7 so the audience never has to guess the day or how much money they have.
I never said it should be removed entirely—it’s essential for context. However, it should disappear during high-emotion moments, like hugging family or intimate discussions. They even removed it in parts of this video, but it still showed during moments that needed to feel raw and human. The Day Counter is most effective during montages, time-lapses, and strategic discussions—not during deeply emotional scenes.
6. His voiceovers aren't meant to make the audience feel dumb, it's literally for the dumb portion of his audience.
Dang, you're mean. But anyways, sure, the voiceovers simplify concepts for the portion of his audience that require more hand holding, but there’s still room to improve the delivery and editing of the voiceovers. It’s possible to be clear for kids without underestimating the intelligence of the broader audience and spoiling emotional moments before they happen. Aka "in a few moments you'll notice she starts crying" instead of just showing a woman authentically crying and then commenting on it after.
7. MrBeasts audio redlining isn't an editing mistake, it's purposefully done.
I know. MrBeast cranks his audio to be consistently loud so it’s noticeable on any device—even bad speakers. It’s like how commercials are louder than TV shows to grab attention. This creates a high-energy perception and makes it harder to click off. It’s genius, and creators like Mark Rober do it too. I've got no problem with that. My issue? Going above +1dB. The loudest audio should peak at 0dB to avoid distortion, which clients often complain about. You can still have a funny, distorted meme sound at 0dB or below.
8. What if the editors didn’t have enough footage to tell the story, so they had to rush certain moments?
Unlikely. MrBeast has more coverage (B-roll, footage, camera angles) than 99% of creators. He has custom server rooms storing petabytes of footage, far beyond the single-camera setup most creators use.
9. Aren’t some mistakes left in for authenticity?
Sometimes, yes—like a stutter during an emotional moment or MrBeast uploading 1080p videos when he can literally afford an IMAX camera. But these poorly executed edits weren't meant to increase the perceived authenticity of the edit. The Frankenbiting, for example, does not cause the viewer to think "my gosh this is so authentic." Even the details they miss are still picked up by their brain, subtly influencing their emotions in the background. This is why subconscious editing is so important—it shapes how viewers feel without them even realizing it.
10. MrBeast does all these "mistakes" and still gets insane results. Why listen to you?
MrBeast constantly adapts his strategies. Things he did a year ago are different from what he does now. He's even slowed the pacing of his videos in order to focus more on emotional storytelling, so he’s clearly open to improving, just like any good creator.
