Love your videos mate, I'm obsessed with collecting music all sources also love listening to good quality FM on my marantz tuner, wish you were here is my 2nd joint favourite pink floyd album The Wall being the first, TLLDOB/The White album joint 1st of all time!

A great choice of albums, dire straits 1st album is a absolute classic 👍

You always cause me to search my collection for the treasures you mention…. I have a first European pressing of that Police album….. I’m surprised I haven’t listened to it in a long time. Thanks for prompting me to take another listen….. It sounds amazing! Still loving your passion, Vicente

brilliant topic because we all have that monkey on our shoulder that wants us to buy new gear all the time. The never ending spiral

I will admit that I have similar issues and your suggestion definitely works. The problem is unfortunate, because then you have to put albums up to compare to each other, and they all have variations in quality.Oh well, I like them all!!

The Cure ‘Disintegration’ is my go to pure sound album. ‘Also Can’t buy a Thrill’ Steely Dan.

I can't wish you the best for Monday's game. I'm a Portuguese follower of yours, so you understand. Aljubarrota again?

Hi from Portugal.
I follow your channel with great enthusiasm. Besides being a music lover, I also have a great passion for high fidelity. In that regard, I'd like to ask what your listening setup is like? Your amplifier and speakers. Its a curiosity of a music partner 🙂
All the best.
Pedro

Vincent, your comment on obsessing...   My recommendation: go back to your reference. If nothing has changed, the source and the gear aren't the issue , it's you!

There is nothing wrong with obsessing. The BIG CURE is lowering distortion. Those sibilant ssssy sounds are a COMBINATION of frequency accentuation AND some distortion. As you lower your system's distortion you'd be surprised how those sounds that shouldn't be there...go away or get way harder to even notice. As far as the spatiality that you describe, (air volume)...that is on BOTH lps and cds. My system is to the point where I can hear that quality on practically any cd I play. You don't need SACD, XRCD or UHQ Cds to hear that. Redbook is fine. You think that vinyl does that better because your vinyl playback gear has sound quality ABOVE your cd playback gear. People who've given more priority to cd playback might hear that quality on cds, but not on their lp playback gear. Better signal integrity, brings out qualities like that. It is not your system creating those sounds; they are ON the recording but it takes enough signal integrity from your system to hear stuff like that; whether it is cd or lp.

Picture lowering distortion as putting on more and more varnish on a speaker cabinet. Some really high end speakers clain to have 50 to 100 layers of varnish on the wood cabinets. Each applied after the previous layer dries. The much thicker varnish would take a whale of a hit before an obvious nick showing all the way through to the speakers wood; would occur. If your system has ultra low distortion, with layers and layers of leeway, it would take a whale of a lot of distortion hit  before you'd hear the distortion. Remember, the distortion your hear from your system is the COMBINATION of the distortion on the recording PLUS the distortion your system and cables add to the sound. Decreasing distortion in any part of your system, will make any recording sound cleaner than you thought it was.

REALLY the only people who "really" know how much distortion any recording has, are the people with the finest cleanest sounding playback gear. The rest of the people only are know how much distortion something sounds like it has after the distortion of their system is added on to it. Many recordings would surprise the heck out of you (in a good way) if auditioned with the very finest playback equipment.

If there any typos, please excuse, my eyes are too blurry at this early time of day to proofread. Good video !!

When it comes to Peter Gabriel So I went with the Japanese pressing, same with Dire Straits. The Police debut Vivante pressing is simply the best I've heard.
