My benefit needs upgrading! ❤

Some valid points there vince, trust your ears is the best policy, take care mate.

Another great video, as usual on you. 2 weeks ago i made a video on my channel talking about my opinion about the japanese pressings and what i said was exactly what you said in this video, exactly the same pros and cons (some people think i wen't crazy, because the japanese pressings are well regarded and my video was in the oposite way). Can't agree more with you. I also have the Steely Dan - Aja 1st US 1006 AB and is indeed very very good but when came out i bought the UHQR (it's the only UHQR i have) and i think it's a step above the OG US. It's one of my favourite album of all time so i also have the cd with the Steve Hoffman mastering and 2 months ago i bought the AP SACD. The UHQR it's still by far my favourite version. Cheers from Portugal

Interesting movie. As a CD listener, I like this medium because it’s useful and convenient for listening to lengthy electronic music recordings. Many compositions last longer than 75 minutes, with individual concert recordings exceeding 125 minutes. In this case, mp3 file versions allow you to listen on a DVD or from a computer for many hours without interruption, with recordings that build their original mood thanks to the unique sound of electronic instruments. I’m mentioning this just as a digression. Of course, sound experts with vinyl records know very well which records best capture their refined, demanding acoustic expectations. That’s valuable knowledge, which I always admire in true collectors.

preservation requires a good tip.  Because of the minute surface contact area as the groove passes by the tip, the concentrated weight creates so much friction that for an instant the heat will cause the vinyl to flow around the tip, but because the heat event is so quick, the intrinsic properties of the vinyl will allow the original molecular matrix that was pressed in at the factory to reform.  This is why a worn needle will destroy records, because a worn tip will prolong the heat event,  degrading the perfection of the effect.  .

As with anything "it depends"

I was informed that Japanese pressings are often a little lacking in bass because culturally, they're cognisant of neibourhoods living in close proximity and accommodate for it. The upside of these pressings are, as you say, top quality paper and card, as well as superior vinyl.

You used ambience and presence to describe vinyl and others may say cd's are too compressed.I side with your vinyl view and I have some cd's I like. The 50's and 60's albums are great when you find clean copies. I hope this new oil crisis leaves the vinyl alone.I love my old 45 singles and have a few 45 albums  and they're cool too..

Vincete,

Believe it or black vinyl is actually coloured vinyl. The true colour of pure vinyl is a milky semi translucent hue.

Records were coloured black because of the introduction of recycled vinyl and the use plasticisers and PVC to make them more durable. However, as a consequence of this mix graphite had to be introduced to make them play better, this also added the black colouring. Which is what the public knew from 78s, which were black because Shelac was was the main composition.

When true colour vinyl came a thing in the late '70s via labels such of Stiff and other indies, the quality of reproduction was not great due the  graphite being omitted. But, colour vinyl today is virtually indistinguishable from black records.

.I hope that helps.

Russell.

Trust your ears… Good advice! I just got the 2022 Abby Rd. Half speed of Tommy. I remember Tommy sounding so much better. I was thinking that maybe I just need a new stylus but then I put on my trusty Robin Trower, Bridge of Sighs and it still sounded phenomenal. I’m just thinking out loud, but I was thinking about taking a chance on the UHQR. It’s a lot of money so I thought maybe I’ll just get Who’s Next, since it’s still available, but then I saw YouTube video that tore it apart. They were saying that it wasn’t a well recorded album (It was Mazzy).I am so sick of buying things that I’m sorry for. Like I said, I’m just thinking. Love your videos, Vicente!!
You’ve probably talked about this before, but are there any UHQR’s that you really impressed by?

Why collect Japanese vinyl just for the cover packaging? And albums in 45 may be slightly better but not worth breaking up the flow of the album as intended by the artist A well recorded album doesn’t sound that much different in 45 as in 33
