Christopher Lee played doctor Catheter in Joe Dante's Gremlins 2. On the set of that movie he apologized to Dante for having appeared in Howling II.

After watching the howling, I always wanted a sequel. This would've been epic.

This just reminds me of how badly I'd love to see you rank all of the Howling films, because some of them are ATROCIOUS

You've made me curious now about the books and sequels. Kinda sad how they tend to have a great idea for a sequel, but then either someone doesn't like it and rewrites the idea or just interferes with it to make it the sequel we all know and hate.

Originally, the film adaptation of "THE
HOWLING II" was to have Marsha Quist
returning and having her be in cahoots
with Sybil Danning's character Stirba.

Unfortunately, actress Elisabeth Brooks
(R.I.P.) was unavailable for various reasons
(either due to health issues — at the time,
she was suffering from pelvic inflammatory
disease — or being upset that she was
too revealing in the love scene as opposed
to being smoke-screened by the bonfire as
promised), so Marsha was replaced with an
original werewolf character: Marianna played
by Marsha A. Hunt.

The Howling was incredibly groundbreaking in the werewolf genre. It was the first time we got a realistic lycanthrope.

Howling 2... Sybil Danning. Nuff' said.

What we need is a Howling series which focuses on the Quist family or pack. It could start with a private investigator being hired by a wealthy family to find their daughter who disappeared into a cult. The girl is found and returned to her family but her family end's up horrifically mutilated and the girl is not amongst the dead, the mortician claims the family were attacked by a large animal leaving the investigator to look deeper into this cult. What he finds out will take him to the edge of insanity.

Rest in Peace Christopher Lee. What an Absolute Legend and Fantastic Actor. We all Miss You and Your Amazing Performances 🙏🕊💔

That would've been the best sequel to the howling had it been made.  Especially how the end reveal that she's alive.

I read all of the Howling novels and just adored the first film. I saw it four times in the theater. I was also one of the few that saw Howling II; Your sister is a werewolf in the theater. The movie wasn't any good but it was one of the best times I ever had going to the theater. There was like six or seven people watching and during the movie, we all got up and sat together because we were laughing, having a good time, We knew we were among com-padres. It's a bad movie but it's a gem and the best of the sequels. It's got punk rock music, Christopher Lee, Sybil Danning in S and M attire, werewolf sex, takes place in Transylvania, nudity,...pass the popcorn I'm in heaven! So, I'm not sorry they didn't make a theatrical film out of the second novel. Having said that, I did enjoy the second and third novels far more than the first one. The first Howling was Gary Brandner's first novel and it was not well written (he literally started the novel with a gratuitous rape scene). That is not the way to introduce your main character. The Howling was basically a reworking of Stephen King's Salem's Lot; substituting werewolves for vampires. The first paperback editions even compared it to Salem's Lot. Not a wise move in my opinion. Howling II and III were better written and more enjoyable. I think he learned from the many mistakes he made the first time out. I'm befuddled as to why he didn't like the Joe Dante film, unless it was his writer's ego. Joe Dante completely changed the story and I remember reading an interview in Fangoria where he had some things to say about how poorly written the Brandner novel was. Because I so enjoyed some of his earlier novels (...walkers, The Brain Eaters), I thought he might eventually become better known. But, he never caught on and ended up writing paperback adaptions of then current horror films.

Yeah but then the sequels we did get, oh boy remember the one with the werewolves being marsupials.

I completely hated the Howling sequel. I really wish we got something like a real sequel like you described in the book. Probably just take it as a straight up revenge movie where multiple werewolves try to kill a whole town of people trying to take revenge on the characters who escaped in the news room or something.

Thanks for showing this movie so much respect. It's my favorite horror film. Been rewatching it for more than thirty years.

Gary Brandner be like:
Oh no they made some changes in that movie so it's not 100% like my novel! I'll help them with sequel so they don't mess it
* proceeds to make a movie that has nothing to do with the book *

I would love to see this Howling Sequel get made for real.
My favorite Howling Movies are The Howling Howling 3 Howling 4 Howling 5 and The Howling Reborn.

The graphic nove; The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen (with the Queen in the title being Marsha Quist) is probably the closest we'll ever get to a legitimate sequel to the orginal.

The Howling is my favorite Werewolf movie of all time even over An American Werewolf in London. It still holds up today, hands down as far as the Visual FX with the transformation scenes go. I would have loved seeing the same people adapt the book sequel in to a movie sequel. However... I hear that Netflix has purchased the rights to Gary Bradners novel and is planning 3 movies. The last I heard Andy Muschietti (The director of the IT movies) has been tapped for the planed trilogy.

I enjoyed the sequel book took. From what I remember the woman who was shot in the eye lost her ability to change at will and now could only change when the moon was full, not sure why. She was going after Karen for doing that to her. I haven't read the other books, it has been several decades since I read them - I am 67 and I read them when they first came out. Thanks for a good review of the books and the movies. Very rarely do movie sequels do justice to the original.

I'd pay good money to see this on the big screen...Someone make this movie

My favorite all time werewolf movie, THE HOWLING it’s a classic! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
