Big misconception, Ali liked Floyd Patterson and actually had a good relationship with Patterson and even respected Patterson

Have to agree. Ali was probably the first sportsman to promote himself, which is fine. Problem is he went way over the line with some of his comments made about Joe. Joe Frazier was a class act in the ring and a good man outside the ring. RIP Joe

It's been 43 years since this fight took place and I can remember the hype and buildup like it was yesterday!! I can't think of any sporting event which captured the interest of as many people as this one!! It really became a referendum on where you stood politically, socially, etc. Incredibly, the fight lived up to the hype--both fighters fought brilliantly!! Say what you will about Ali--for a guy who had been idle for 3 1/2 years with just 1 and 1/4 tune-up fights (the Quarry fight wasn't much) his performance was simply extraordinary. As for Frazier---his courage and will to win was awe inspiring--he left everything he had in the MSG ring that night and was never the same after this bout.

it's sad that they're both gone but it's was painful to see that Ali verbally hurt Frazier and he lived with those wounds til his last day..

Frazier never took the beating Ali did except from Ali. Ali took beatings from all comers. Frazier fought less fights but his style was made for Ali.

This event changed the atmosphere on championship fights going forward. The hype was so phenomenal it was a must see event. The FBI office in PA was burgularized on this night by amateurs who correctly figured everyone's preoccupation with this match!

The greatest era of heavyweight boxing easily.

Frazier won over most of America well white America because Ali opposed the Vietnam war. However soon after Ali/Frazier 1, the nation began to realize that the Vietnam war was an unjust war just as Ali had said. They began to agree with Ali and support him, and turned their backs on Frazier. After the Vietnam war ended Muhammad Ali became one of the most beloved figures in the world.
