i am 36 old man..playing game since i was 6..i got to say this game is the most iconic game i ever play..i probably remember about how good is this game for the rest of my life

Expedition 33 triggers depression and emptiness and hope in me whenever I see a video about it. It was such a deep experience, it's not comparable to a story perspective as we had

On my first playthrough of the game I was in complete denial that Gustave was actually dead until they buried him. Never before has a game done that to me

Do not give up. Make it to the end. Life is hard but tomorrow comes

This game is a masterpiece through and through. I have played many RPGs with amazing stories which moved me but this is more than an RPG with an amazing story..it is fine art.

My dad just passed and I got this game recently and it’s a moving game.

I lost my brother two years ago and my mother earlier this year. Playing this game for the first time in the last couple weeks hit hard. “Best game ever made” is not hyperbole. It’s been almost 30 years since a game has touched me so deeply, and even the FF7 seems almost shallow in comparison.

I honestly love the audio and video editing with Renoir's cane

How do you only have 2k subs? Thank goodness the algorithm fed this to me while I was trying to find a good video essay to help to explain to my friends why they need to play this game. Anywho, subscribed!

We got another one! Of all the great things about this game, my favorite is the way it converts the skeptics!
I enjoyed your reading about how we all escape in art, but doing that too much isn't healthy.

I lost my will to play any game at my age. E33 pulled me in and I got so immersed it was crazy.

The years leading up to the release of this game, I lost my older brother, mom, dad. And step dad. This game hit me hard af.

I tell every person I talk to about this game I make it very clear it's by far one of the best pieces of MEDIA I've ever been exposed to, books,tv,movies, games poems short stories etc

Your video actually inspired me to finish rhymed fan translation of Alicia's monologue in Maelle's dream. Thank you.

There's a lot of genius in the way the story is told towards the end. It's no suprise that massive amounts of players, even knowing the truth take Maelles ending first. It makes Versos ending hit so much harder and it's also a reminder that while the canvas (in our case the game) is a masterpiece, at some point we all have to let go.

"Why don't you just leave, you can always come back. This is not worth your life".

Excellent video! I love this game to death, man. It will forever be in my top 3 of all time. Instant sub can't wait to see what you make next

Just finished the main story yesterday and still reeling about the emotional trauma honestly but also the care in which they chose to collectively gut punch all of us so I am in a binge of content for the game and glad I stumbled upon your video. One thing I would point out though is that the “Aline pretending the fire only took Alicia” line I read it more as, while everyone else is depicted healthy in the canvas, just like Painted Verso is fine in it, Painted Alicia instead is cursed to carry the physical evidence of what happened almost as a form either of punishment as most people believe, but also maybe as I see it, more as a reminder to Aline that the fire did happen. She is unable to deal with her grief and got attached to the last place that stores a piece of her son’s soul, but I wonder had she been allowed to actually elaborate her grieve instead of having Renoir try to force her to do it against her pacing, would she have been able to properly mourn and overcome her grief since Painted Verso and Painted Alicia are a reminder of her reality ? I kept thinking about how Renoir chose to “help” Aline the same way she did for him long ago, but I wonder maybe the war with the Writers/Clea need of help in it and attitude forced his hand in delivering help to Aline when she was not yet receptive of it and thus this is why it all got prolonged even more. Even with Maelle, I think it is clear she cannot move on nor properly process all that happened cause she lacks the support she needs both in the manner of it but also for the looming threat of the Writers. There is so much to think about in this story and one thing I liked regardless of how others need a good/justified ending, I can understand all the characters and feel for them with the knowledge I do also live with the choices I made, not cause they were the best or the right ones, but because I have made them and had to move forward still.

Honestly this is the best vid I've seen on this game, bravo son!

1:45 welcome to the club, friend.

First of all, I absolutely loved the video. Very well done! Secondly, when this game came out, my friends basically peer-pressured me into playing it ASAP because of how much they thought it would relate to me. At the time I didn't know just how right they were. Maelle’s story and mine are incredibly similar, and because of that, Exp33 has since become my favorite game of all time.

As for the endings, personally, I consider PVerso’s ending to be the “good” ending. While escapism can be a perfectly valid and even helpful way of getting short-term relief from stress and trauma, refusing to face your problems head-on and properly allowing yourself to grieve is harmful to your mental health. Over time, it will damage your ability to cope with difficult emotions and even affect your ability to connect with other people. Instead of allowing yourself to experience pain and loss, you end up hiding behind an activity or fantasy that provides temporary happiness and relief.
Even if the Dessendre family doesn’t recover from Verso’s death quickly, they will eventually be able to move forward. And with the remaining four of them together, I think their family bond would only become stronger, allowing them to support one another and cope with their grief together.

Maelle’s ending, on the other hand, feels much darker to me. In a way, she becomes a slaver to the people of Lumière. If they refuse to play the role she wants them to play, she would rather force them to do so than accept the possibility of breaking the illusion and having to confront a life that isn’t truly her own.
